Special Infected
September 15, 2026 at 08:09 AM
Initial version (2026-09-15)
Special infected are zombie variants with behaviour of their own. Very little has been published about them. Three are named in first-party communication and nothing else is, which makes this one of the shortest subjects on the wiki. The page is short because the record is short, not because the information has been left out.
Variant | What is known | Recorded in |
|---|---|---|
Parkour Zombie | Fast and mobile. Its legs can be ripped off and fitted to your own survivor, which lets you outrun a car. See Playing as a Zombie for the separate rules on being zombified yourself. | Developer answers, November 2025 |
Spider Mutant | Named alongside the Parkour Zombie as an infected whose limbs can be harvested to enhance human weapons. No behaviour has been described. | Developer answer, November 2025 |
Gun-wielding zombies | Armed Zeds that deal high damage. The studio confirmed the damage is by design rather than a bug. See Combat. | Second test known issues board, June 2026 |
The one mechanic tied specifically to special infected is harvesting. Limbs taken from these variants can be used to enhance human weapons, and in the Parkour Zombie's case the legs can be attached to the survivor directly. That fits the studio's broader pitch that anything found in the world can be taken apart and fused onto something else, which is covered on Crafting and Modification and in more detail on Weapon Assembly.
The general zombie rules apply to special infected as well, as far as anyone has been told. What is visible on a Zed is what can be looted from it, city areas carry far more zombies than the countryside, and nothing respawns inside a claimed territory. Those are covered on Zombies and Infection.
Four zombie type names circulate in coverage of the gamescom 2026 demo. No first-party source carries any of them. Three of the four are also special infected names from another well known zombie survival game, and Zeverland players had already put those same names to the studio as suggestions in a question and answer session before they appeared in coverage. That combination makes them the weakest claim attached to this game, and they are deliberately not listed here. Until the studio names a variant itself, it does not belong on this page.
Lore material published on the studio's own community channel describes two further infected: a Bomb Zombie, with a stated origin in that fiction, and a sound driven special infected with large ears. That material has never appeared in a dev log, a patch note, a bug list or a test report, and its presence in a playable build has not been confirmed. It is collected, with the rest of the published fiction, on Story and Lore Teasers.
No stats, spawn rules, health values, resistances or drop tables exist for any infected variant in Zeverland, special or ordinary. Neither tech test published data of that kind, and both builds were pre-alpha and were fully wiped. Where the infection is thickest on the map is covered on Infected Zones.
