Valkaru Shock Trooper
September 11, 2026 at 10:26 PM
Initial version (2026-09-11)
The Shock Trooper is the ranged core of a The Valkaru contract, a Tier 2 infantry unit bought two to a squad and folded into whichever main faction army has hired the group. Mercenary groups add to a faction rather than replacing one, so a Shock Trooper pair fights beside Protectorate, Grell, Legion or Xol units.
Two numbers define it. The Ionic Coil deals 30 damage at 12.5 range with full splash across 2.5, and the unit carries 5 flat armour, the highest armour value on either mercenary roster. A three second cooldown makes its sustained output low, so the Shock Trooper is a unit that trades survivability and area coverage for damage per second.
Figures below describe the September 2026 Early Access build carrying the identifier ZS.c36778, and they move with a patch cadence that has been close to weekly since launch. Roughly half the versus roster had a stat touched in the fortnight before that build was captured, so read every number here as dated rather than permanent.

Tier | 2 |
Domain | Ground unit |
Infuse cost | 6.719 |
Reanimate cost | 6.719 |
Replicate cost | 6.719 |
Bought from | Valkaru War Vault |
Weapon | Damage | DPS | Range | Cooldown | Targets | Splash |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Ionic Coil | 30 | 10 | 12.5 | 3s | Ground only | Full damage across a 2.5 radius |
The splash is unusual in carrying no falloff. Every unit inside the 2.5 radius takes the full 30 rather than a reduced share, so the weapon rewards firing into a formation rather than at the nearest model in it.
The entity data lists no activated ability and no passive for the Shock Trooper. The splash is a property of the weapon rather than a separate ability entry.
Nothing upgrades the Shock Trooper directly. The Valkaru talent line, taken at faction levels 2, 4 and 6, is what changes it.
Level | Talent | Effect | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
2 | Hounds of War | An extra | spawns every time a mercenary squad is purchased. | |
4 | Relic Plating | All Valkaru units gain 1 flat armour and 25 percent health. | ||
6 | Fallen Glory | Valkaru units temporarily gain 15 percent attack speed when friendly units die nearby, and the Beast gains its Taunt and Pulverize abilities. |
Relic Plating is the entry that matters most here. Taking the Shock Trooper from 5 flat armour to 6, on top of 25 percent more health, turns an already awkward unit to remove into a genuinely stubborn one against light weapons.
Three factions can act on a unit that already exists instead of building a new one, and each pays out of the same top bar power pool. Infuse is the Grell mechanic, permanently raising a friendly unit's health, damage and regeneration for the rest of its life at a bonus of 45 percent since the balance pass of August 11, 2026. Reanimate is the Legion of Truth version, which speeds the unit up by 30 percent while it lives and stands it back up when it dies. Replicate is the Xol version, which copies an eligible allied unit outright.
The Shock Trooper is eligible for all three, and in this build the three prices are identical at 6.719 power each. See Resources and Economy for how the top bar pool fills.
The Shock Trooper answers massed cheap ground units. Full splash across 2.5 range with no falloff means a squad of two firing into a clustered push deals 30 to everything caught in each blast, which is a far better return than the 10 DPS figure suggests when there is more than one target.
It also anchors the line while the melee half of the roster closes. At 375 health and 5 armour it does not die quickly to the small arms that infantry usually trade with, and it holds the space that the Valkaru Tow Bot needs in order to drag enemies into the Valkaru Hound squad behind it.
Against a single heavy target it is close to useless. Ten DPS on a three second cycle, with no armour type bonus of any kind and no ability, is the lowest sustained damage on either mercenary roster. It also cannot shoot air at all.
The four buyable Valkaru units all come out of the War Vault and most arrive as squads for one price. The group's design is direct assault, and the Shock Trooper is the only piece of it that deals damage at a real distance without first jumping, pulling or biting. Everything else in the roster either fights in contact or exists to create contact.
Five flat armour is the headline defensive number. Flat armour subtracts damage from every hit with a floor of one damage per attack, so a weapon doing 6 a shot does 1 to a Shock Trooper, while a weapon doing 60 a shot does 55. That asymmetry is enormous: massed light attackers are close to harmless against it, and a single heavy weapon barely notices the armour at all.
The Medium armour type works against that. Since August 11, 2026, when the separate harvester armour type was deleted and folded into Medium, Medium bonuses are among the most common in the game, and every one of them applies here. Units covers the six armour types and the flat armour maths behind them.
Target | Why |
|---|---|
Massed cheap infantry | Full splash with no falloff across 2.5, and 5 flat armour reducing their return fire to the one damage floor. |
Clustered pushes | Two Shock Troopers firing into a formation deal 30 to every model in each blast. |
Fast weak weapons of any kind | Flat armour punishes high rate of fire far more than it punishes heavy hits. |
Threat | Why |
|---|---|
Single heavy hitters | A three second cooldown and 10 DPS lose that trade badly, and flat armour barely blunts a heavy weapon. |
Air units | The Ionic Coil targets ground only. |
Medium armour bonuses | Extremely common since August 11, 2026, and the Shock Trooper carries Medium armour itself. |
August 11, 2026: squad cost reduced from 200 hexite and 75 flux to 175 hexite and 75 flux.
The roster record for this unit is COMPLETE on every field the source publishes. One value is absent from the entity data and is left blank rather than guessed: the status resist value.
Mercenary units carry no build time, and that is a property of the game rather than a gap in the record: they are hired rather than constructed, so the entity data publishes a price and a squad size but no production timer.
No dated studio note between the Early Access launch of July 20, 2026 and the hotfix of September 1, 2026 changes any Shock Trooper combat stat. The August 11 entry above is a cost change only, so the 375 health, 5 armour and 30 damage figures have stood since launch.
Per unit numbers are drawn from a community maintained entity catalogue that the studio links from each of its own faction pages. It is the only place a full stat block is published, so read the figures as careful community documentation of one build rather than as an official specification. Dated balance notes come straight from the studio patch posts and are stated as such.
