Initial version
The British Tars is one of the traditional sea shanties included on the official Windrose Original Soundtrack. The shanty used in the February 2026 IGN Fan Fest "Raging Seas" trailer. It appears on the Windrose OST in both trailer and full versions. Community coverage sometimes calls it "Upon My Native Shore" or "Sail the Raging Sea" based on its lyrics; the canonical OST track name is The British Tars.
The track appears on the Windrose: Original Soundtrack (Steam App 4564200), released alongside the April 14, 2026 Early Access launch. Vocals are performed by Sean Dagher, the same shantyman who recorded the sea shanties for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Arrangements are by the Kraken Express audio team.
The British Tars derives from the traditional folk song variously titled "British Man-o'-War" or "Upon My Native Shore." The lyrics warn young men against leaving their happy homes to sail the raging sea, a common 19th-century sentiment in maritime folk music. "Tars" is an archaic British slang term for sailors.
Triggered at the ship's helm by pressing B while under sail. NPC crew members on deck join the vocals while you steer between islands. Shanties pause when combat begins (naval cannons take priority) and resume once the engagement ends.
Featured in the February 25, 2026 "Raging Seas" trailer that premiered at IGN Fan Fest 2026.
The trailer marked one of Windrose's biggest pre-launch moments and cemented the game's Black Flag-adjacent brand identity.
Because of the trailer exposure, some community writeups refer to the track by its lyrical refrain rather than its OST name; all three names point to the same track.
