The Rum Barrel features in the Buccaneers faction quest chain. During the chain you receive a cask of rum from a Buccaneer contact, and a later objective asks you to deliver rum back to the faction. Working through the chain raises Faction Reputation with the Rogue Buccaneers and opens up their camp services.

As a high-quality cask it carries strong value at vendors that accept the Spirits category. Hold onto any barrel the quest hands you until you know whether a later step needs it, since a quest delivery is usually worth more than an early sale.
