Overpenetration

Overpenetration is a talent in the Marksman branch of the Windrose Talent System. Shots penetrate through an enemy and continue to targets behind them. The first target takes full damage; any target hit by the penetrating bullet takes reduced damage by the per-rank percentage. Lower reduction = better (rank 3 leaves 80% damage on the second target; rank 1 leaves only 50%).

Rank 1 | 50% less |
Rank 2 | 35% less |
Rank 3 | 20% less |
Situational. At rank 3 the 20% reduction is negligible and makes this strong for horde clears and tight corridors. At rank 1 the 50% reduction cuts second-target damage in half. Trap for pure single-target boss rotations regardless of rank.
Overpenetration was non-functional from the April 14, 2026 Early Access launch until Hotfix 0.10.0.2.54 on April 17, 2026, when the patch fixed the talent so the penetration and reduction behavior matches the card text. Any guide published in the three-day window between launch and hotfix was testing broken code. Post-patch: the first target takes full damage, and the bullet continues to any target behind it with the per-rank reduction applied. Whether penetration chains through 3+ enemies (and whether the reduction compounds on each successive target or applies once) remains uncertain in community testing; the talent-card text does not specify.

Overpenetration is the horde-clear specialist. The penetration mechanic lets a single shot hit multiple enemies lined up in a column, which matters in corridor pulls (Jungle Caves) and pirate camp alignments.
A Musket shot at rank 3 Overpenetration (20% reduction) hits the first target for 580 Pierce, then continues and hits a second lined-up target for 464 Pierce (580 x 0.80). At rank 1 (50% reduction) the second target takes only 290 Pierce. The rank 3 pick dramatically outperforms rank 1 for multi-target use.
Whether the penetration chains to a 3rd or 4th enemy is not cleanly documented in external sources. Community testing since the post-hotfix window has been inconsistent.
Trap pick in pure single-target boss rotations at any rank. No boss has additional targets for the penetration to chain through.
