The Lingering Death is a ship flag cosmetic in Windrose, applied at the Shipwright to customize a player ship's flagstaff. The Lingering Death design is associated with Blackbeard's Crew.
A symbol of inexorable death. They say the pirates who sailed under this flag buried their victims up to the neck on the shore and watched in grim amusement as animals gathered, or the tide crept in.

Bring the ship to a Wharf built by the Shipwright, press Manage under the ship you want to change, and open the Customization tab. The flagstaff slot lists every flag design your character has unlocked; pick Lingering Death from that list. The same tab also controls hull and sail colors, so a Blackbeard look usually means setting the flag, the dark hull, and the sails together.
The Blackbeard ship designs are not sold by a player-facing provisioner. Players obtain the matching Style Books by looting Blackbeard outposts and capturing Blackbeard ships, after which the design becomes available at the Shipwright.
Lingering Death is one of several skull-and-crossbones flag designs tied to historical pirate captains. If you are collecting flags rather than chasing the Blackbeard theme specifically, these are the companion options on the same flagstaff slot:

Lingering Death is purely cosmetic: it changes how your ship reads to other crews and adds nothing to speed, hull strength, or cannon mounts. Because the unlock is stored on the design itself and not on a single hull, once the matching Style Book is read the flag is available across every Ship Design: Ketch, Ship Design: Brig, and Ship Design: Frigate hull your character has built. The flag weighs 1.0 kg as a catalog entry, which is bookkeeping only and does not affect cargo capacity once it is flying.
