The Grave of Jaime Lopez is the second lore item in the Spanish expedition sequence. The captain who buries Lopez does so without forgiveness: Lopez betrayed the Order and conspired with Davy Jones for promised eternal life that Jones did not deliver.

Jaime, Jaime, I pulled you out of a pit of debt and made you my first mate.

And you repaid me by conspiring with the enemy, betraying the Order, betraying the faith.

Whatever Jones promised you, it was a lie. Your 'eternal life' didn't last long.

Today I laid you in the grave. Tomorrow I'll send Jones to Hell. It's been waiting for him.

Lore Context

Jaime Lopez is the captain's first mate, who betrayed both the Order (the religious authority chartering the expedition) and his personal debt to the captain. The line 'Jones promised you eternal life, it was a lie' establishes that Jones is actively recruiting living crew with promises he does not honor, an in-fiction explanation for why the world is filling with unwilling Drowned.
