Black Powder is a hull paint cosmetic for ships in Windrose. The paint is applied at a player-built Wharf through the Manage Ship menu's Customization tab. Once unlocked, the paint can be repainted onto any ship the player owns at no Guinea cost.
The hull is so dark it feels as if smoke and gunpowder have seeped into the planks.
Unlocked by reading Style Book: Stock Hull Colors, a one-time-use book sold by the matching faction Provisioner. Reading the book permanently adds the paint to the Wharf customisation menu for that character.
That book is sold by the Brethren of the Coast Provisioner for 30 Guinea, and your reputation with that faction must reach the rank that opens the Provisioner cosmetic stock first. One read unlocks all three stock hull colours at once, so Black Powder always arrives alongside its two siblings.
Stock Hull Paint | Look |
|---|---|
A near-black wash with a deep, sooty undertone | |
Seasoned Oak | A warm honey-brown finish that suits unmodified hulls |
Maiden Timber | A pale, almost ivory-coloured wood treatment |
Sail the ship to a Wharf and dock it. Open the Manage Ship menu, switch to the Customization tab, and select Hull. The unlocked paints appear in the option list and previewing one swaps the live ship model immediately. Confirm to apply; there is no Guinea cost on application.
Black Powder is stat-neutral, like every Ship Customization paint; it changes only the look of the hull, never speed, cargo, or armour.
The unlock is bound to a character, not to a base or clan. Each player who wants the colour must buy and read their own Style Book: Stock Hull Colors.
It can be repainted onto any hull you own, from a Ketch up to a Frigate, at no Guinea cost once unlocked.
For coloured sails to match, read Style Book: Stock Sails Colors as well; hull and sail palettes are unlocked separately.
