The Rare tier is already strong in isolation, and each ascension burns Tumbaga Ingot x8 for a single cannon slot. If you are still climbing the Shipwright's Workshop tier ladder, if your Frigate is not yet Item Level 15, or if you are rotating between playstyles that favor different modification lines, it is often smarter to keep the Rare cannon and spend your Tumbaga on something else first.
