The Wagon

The wagon is the mobile base at the center of Westlanders. It carries supplies, hauls heavy resources and unfolds into a campsite, so the player's home travels with them across The Westlands. The game is unreleased, and everything below describes plans and pre-alpha footage, not a shipped feature.
The publisher's game page, current as of October 2026, calls the wagon "your mobile and upgradeable base of operations" and says the player's home travels with them and adapts to every challenge. The store text adds that players relocate it as needed to find vital resources, hidden locations and unique characters.
The former co-publishing partner's game page, written in late 2025 and early 2026, explained the design goal: removing the survival-game frustration where exploration is limited by small inventories and base-building arrives late. It described the wagon as "your home, your workshop, and your progression hub" and said that within minutes of starting, the player repairs the wagon and sets off on the open road.
According to a January 2026 developer blog, each player will be able to build and operate their own wagon, or take a seat on another player's wagon, which fits the co-op setup described on Multiplayer and Co-op. The same blog said the team plans to release multiple wagons to craft over the course of Early Access, each with its own stats, campsite layout, attachment slots and, in some cases, unique features. As of October 2026, no individual wagon models have been named.
Natural shelter is rare in the wilderness, so the wagon carries its own. The January 2026 blog said the player finds a good spot, stops and deploys the campsite on either side of the wagon. The campsite has slots for deployables, which can be set up in advance so the camp deploys or packs with everything in place. The blog's examples were:
Portable workbenches
Campfires
A bedroll
A hanging spot to kick back and relax
Deployables are arranged in a Wagon management menu by dragging and dropping them to make the most of the available space. The publisher's current page says the campsite can be customized with a variety of workstations and utilities.
The publisher's page says attachments can be equipped to the side of the wagon to enhance its capabilities, and that wagon improvements add up alongside buildings and tools in the tech tree. A March 2026 press release said players would upgrade their wagon and weaponry through a detailed, branching skill tree.
A March 2026 chart, published while the team was preparing its Kickstarter Campaign, listed wagon numbers for the first Early Access version. These are the Kickstarter-era plan and have not been restated since the June 2026 publishing change.
Wagon feature (March 2026 Early Access plan) | Without Kickstarter | With Kickstarter |
|---|---|---|
Number of attachments | 3 | 5 |
Types of camp placeables | 4 | 8 |
The wagon is horse-drawn. The publisher's current page says players can saddle their best horses for the job from a variety they have raised. How horses are raised has not been described as of October 2026.

A March 2026 developer blog covered a change to the harness. After the reveal trailer, a community member sent the team a detailed diagram showing that the paired-horse harness and the reins' position were not realistic, and the team agreed the reins in its pre-alpha build were far from real practice. It gathered reference videos and diagrams, rebuilt the setup with physics and tested it in engine, balancing fidelity against what feels good to play.
In December 2025, players asked on the game's Steam discussion board for deeper horse gameplay such as taming wild horses, tack, care and training. A developer reply said the suggestion had been passed to the team. None of those features has been announced as of October 2026.
The January 2026 blog called trip planning a key part of venturing far from the main base: fitting the wagon to the environment and stocking up on resources first. The dangers waiting on the road are covered on Survival. Wagon customization was also one of the systems shown in the four-minute pre-alpha walkthrough narrated by the game director in April 2026.
