A Kickstarter campaign was part of the plan for Westlanders from its December 2025 reveal. The team opened a pre-launch page, ran a community challenge with free in-game rewards, and showed backer tiers in March 2026. As of October 2026, none of the game's official channels report that the campaign went live, and the June 2026 announcement of Team17 as publisher does not mention it.
The Original Plan
The December 15, 2025 reveal set out a three-phase launch: a crowdfunding campaign in early 2026, then an Early Access period of several months in which early adopters and backers could play and give feedback, then the full release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The reveal stressed that the goal was not only financial, saying "the Early Access version is already funded", and that the point was to build the game with its audience.
A March 20, 2026 post gave two reasons for crowdfunding. First, the team said Kickstarter fit its philosophy of building games alongside the community. Second, The Breach Studios is a small team, and extra funding would let it polish the first Early Access version and add more content and features. The same post said the game would launch in Early Access on PC that year "no matter what".
Pre-Launch Page and Community Challenge
The Kickstarter pre-launch page went live on January 13, 2026. Alongside it, the team started a Community Challenge: players earned points for everyone by following the game on Kickstarter, wishlisting it on Steam or the Epic Games Store, and joining the community Discord. Each reward unlocked would be free for all players when the game releases. On January 29, 2026, the team announced that the Deluxe Hunting Rifle had been unlocked.

At that point the challenge showed 24 points collected, and the wishlist track had passed 75,000 wishlists. No later progress update for the challenge was posted as of October 2026.
March 2026 Announcement
On March 17, 2026, the team said the game had passed 100,000 wishlists and would "soon launch its official Kickstarter campaign". It released a new gameplay trailer for the occasion and said the official development roadmap would be unveiled after the campaign.

In May 2026 a player worried on the game's Steam discussion board that regions and building items were being locked behind the campaign. A member of the game's community team replied: "That's absolutely not the case. During Early Access, the whole game won't be available because it's still in development. But once the game is released, everything will be included."
Status
As of October 2026, the game's Steam announcements, store pages and publisher news contain no post saying the campaign launched, and none gives a funding result. The June 11, 2026 publishing announcement with Team17 does not mention crowdfunding, and it moved Early Access to early 2027. Whether the Community Challenge rewards and the March 2026 feature chart still apply under the new publishing plan has not been stated.
