Building and Settlements
Westlanders plans to let players grow a camp into outposts and settlements across the valley, with production buildings, freely placed decorations, roads and defenses. This page covers what the developers have announced and what they have ruled out for Early Access.

Settlement building is the long-term goal of Westlanders. After surviving the first days from the wagon, the player picks a spot, builds a base camp and grows it into outposts and settlements, eventually forming a network across the valley. The game is unreleased; everything here is planned or shown in pre-alpha material.
From camp to settlement
The former co-publishing partner's game page, written in late 2025 and early 2026, described scouting the perfect location for a base camp where the player can use the land's riches, then growing that humble camp into a thriving settlement and pushing further out. The current store text says players build and customize their own settlements, supply them through farming and mining, and turn the wilderness into bustling hubs.
The store text also says players establish a network of settlements across the entire valley and recruit the NPCs they meet to live there. Recruiting and assigning those workers is covered on Workers and Production.
Buildings and decorations
Replying in January 2026 to a December 2025 thread on the game's Steam discussion board, a developer said the game will feature construction of full buildings for most production buildings, naming outposts, crafting stations and warehouses among others. Players will also be able to place multiple decorations and other pieces freely across their settlement, "or anywhere really!"

The publisher's game page, current as of October 2026, says players unlock and build a variety of buildings and decorations and place them at will to make their settlement. The tech tree that unlocks them is covered on Crafting and Tech Tree.
Modular building
In a January 2026 reply in the same thread, the developer said a fully modular building system is not planned for the Early Access release, though the team has been looking into it and would want any version to be robust. As of October 2026, modular building has not been announced.
In the same thread, a player suggested visible construction stages, from foundation to frame to finished building, instead of placing finished buildings instantly. A staff reply called it an excellent idea and said it was being passed to the development team. That is a player suggestion, not a confirmed feature.
Roads and logistics
The store text says players connect outposts and settlements with roads and logistic networks so their people thrive. The publisher's page adds that players plan and build roads connecting their territories and watch the land change as they play.
Defenses
A March 2026 press release described establishing fortified towns and outposts. It warned that growing wealth will attract bandits, so players need to build robust defenses to protect their progress. Fighting is covered on Combat and Weapons.
March 2026 Early Access plan
A chart published on March 20, 2026 for the planned Kickstarter Campaign listed building numbers for the first Early Access version. These are Kickstarter-era figures and have not been restated since June 2026.
Item (March 2026 plan) | Without Kickstarter | With Kickstarter |
|---|---|---|
Buildings to unlock | 12 | 20 |
Decoration items | 10 | 34 |
Types of camp placeables | 4 | 8 |
The same March 2026 press release said the first Early Access release would let players build their first towns from the ground up.
