Early Access Launch - Version 1 vs Version 2
Sep 12, 2026, 12:58 AM
Initial version (2026-09-11)
Sep 16, 2026, 03:49 AM
Updated sales to 2 million copies, peak concurrents to 400,000 and the review split to 15 September, and added the incorrect ban wave and the best-seller placement
11WARDOGS entered Steam early access on 10 September 2026, with servers opening at 16:00 UTC, a time the developers also published as 12:00 EDT and 5pm BST. The release closed a staged programme of invite-only tests that had run through 2026 and opened an early access period the studio expects to last roughly one to two years. It arrived with a launch trailer built around the line Play Like You Used To, and with the first firm console window the game has had.2233At a Glance445-DetailValueEarly access launch10 September 2026, 16:00 UTCPlatform at launchPC onlyPrice$39.99, with no launch discount in any region checkedEditionsWARDOGS at $39.99 and WARDOGS Supporter Edition at $49.99ConsolesPlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S announced for 2028Copies soldMore than 1.25 million as of 11 September 2026Peak concurrent playersOver 340,000 on SteamReview stateMostly Positive across all languages as of 11 September 20265+DetailValueEarly access launch10 September 2026, 16:00 UTCPlatform at launchPC onlyPrice$39.99, with no launch discount in any region checkedEditionsWARDOGS at $39.99 and WARDOGS Supporter Edition at $49.99ConsolesPlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S announced for 2028Copies soldMore than 2 million as of 15 September 2026Peak concurrent playersOver 400,000 on SteamReview stateVery Positive across all languages as of 15 September 202666Price and Editions7788Early access opened at $39.99 in the United States with no launch discount. The studio has framed that as a stepped price: the game costs less during early access and may rise closer to full release, so players who join earliest pay the least. Two purchase options sit on the store page, the base game at $39.99 and a Supporter Edition at $49.99. On the launch day itself the cosmetic Supporter Pack that had previously existed only inside that bundle was also listed on its own at $12.99, for players who had bought the base game instead. It ships with the hundred-player, three-team match, large maps carrying dynamic objective zones, cash and experience progression where every action pays, gunplay balanced for play rather than strict simulation, vehicles with logistics and support roles, and online multiplayer with proximity voice. Players fight across three maps, each with three different variations. The objective itself is covered under The Control Zone, the buy-a-loadout system under Loadouts and Arsenal and The Cash Economy, and hosting under Servers and Anti-Cheat.17171818Two things appeared on the store listing at launch that had not been there in August: ten achievements, and a fourth trailer alongside the three that had been posted during the reveal and preview campaign. The request-access panel that had advertised the playtest was gone by the following day.191920+The line between what shipped and what was only promised is set out in full under Early Access Roadmap, and the ten achievements are listed under Achievements.21+2022Launch Day21232224The launch did not go smoothly. Demand overran the service within hours. Players could not join servers, players already in a match were kicked out of it, and login queues stretched far beyond what the closed betas had produced. The problem was new: the developers said it had not been present in the previous beta.23252426The studio shipped Launch Stability Hotfix #1 the same day. It forced every logged-in player to close the game and download a client update, returned everyone to the login queue on relaunch, and then admitted players in controlled batches, raising the number let through as servers were confirmed to be filling properly. The post naming the hotfix listed the three symptoms it targeted, said the team would be working through the night, and apologised for the disruption. Through all of it the game sat at the top of the storefront’s global seller chart.252728+A second problem ran alongside the outage. A wave of accounts were banned incorrectly on 10 and 11 September, and the studio pinned a running notice about it, saying it was working through and resolving them and later confirming that a batch had been rescinded. Service work continued past the opening weekend: a maintenance window on 14 September took servers down for about an hour to deliver patch 0.11, after which the studio confirmed they were back up.29+2630The studio published a launch-day recap the following day, describing it as what the launch looked like from inside the studio with no public relations pass over it: the confidence going in, the minute it went wrong, and the relief when it was finally fixed. Patch notes from launch day onward are collected under Update History.27312832Sales and Reception293330-A regulatory announcement published on 11 September 2026 by Everplay Group plc, which holds a strategic partnership interest in the game through its stake in Super Media Group, reported that WARDOGS had exceeded one million copies sold on its first day and had reached over 340,000 concurrent players on Steam. The studio’s own storefront post the same day put the running total at 1.25 million copies. The two are thresholds crossed at different moments rather than competing claims, and the 340,000 figure is a peak rather than a reading taken at any particular hour.34+Sales were reported in stages as thresholds fell. A regulatory announcement published on 11 September 2026 by Everplay Group plc, which holds a strategic partnership interest in the game through its stake in Super Media Group, reported that the game had exceeded one million copies sold on its first day. The studio's own storefront post the same day put the running total at 1.25 million. On 15 September 2026, five days after launch, the studio announced 2 million copies sold.313532-Review sentiment needs both a date and a language scope to mean anything, because the storefront shows two different numbers on the same page. As of 11 September 2026, the day after launch, the all-language rating read Mostly Positive, drawn from 33,432 reviews of which 25,058 were positive, close to 75 percent. The English-language-only view of the same page read Very Positive, 81 percent positive across 21,059 reviews. Both counts are volatile in the days after a launch at this scale.36+DateMilestone10 September 2026More than 1 million copies sold on the first day11 September 20261.25 million copies sold15 September 20262 million copies sold37+Concurrency was revised upward in the same period. The 340,000 peak reported on 11 September was superseded on 12 September, when the studio thanked players for a peak of 400,000 concurrent users while announcing the week's patch. Everplay's half year results, published on 15 September 2026, independently put peak concurrents since launch at over 400,000 and recorded that the game took the number one position on the storefront's global best-seller chart, breaking a record the group's own August release had set weeks earlier. The same statement described the game as performing well ahead of expectations and breaking many sales and player number records, and disclosed that Everplay had exercised an option to raise its stake in Super Media Group, the owner of the studio, from 20 percent to 28 percent.333839+Review sentiment needs both a date and a language scope to mean anything, because the storefront shows two different numbers on the same page, and both moved a long way in the first week. As of 15 September 2026 the all-language rating read Very Positive, drawn from 60,043 reviews of which 48,630 were positive, about 81 percent. The English-language-only view of the same page read Very Positive at 85 percent of 36,651 reviews.40+41+The direction of travel matters more than either number. On 11 September the all-language rating was Mostly Positive at roughly 75 percent across 33,432 reviews; four days later the same scope had nearly doubled in volume and crossed into the higher band. The launch-day service problems are visible in the earlier figure and the recovery in the later one.42+43+Scope11 September 202615 September 2026All languagesMostly Positive, 75 percent of 33,432Very Positive, 81 percent of 60,043English onlyVery Positive, 81 percent of 21,059Very Positive, 85 percent of 36,6513444The studio’s chief executive, Joe Brammer, framed the release as ambitious, rough around the edges and with a long way still to go, and argued that this is exactly what early access is for.35453646Consoles37473848The launch dated the console versions for the first time. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are stated as coming in 2028, on the launch trailer itself, in its storefront announcement, and in the launch announcement sent out to press. They are announced rather than shipped: as of 11 September 2026 no console build has a date more precise than the year, no platform-specific detail has been published, and the 2027 window that circulated in release trackers before launch was never stated by the developers or the publisher.39494050What Comes Next41514252The developers expect roughly one to two years in early access and have said plainly that they do not want to stay there long. The stated priorities for that period are stability, performance, balance, bug fixes, and whatever the community raises most often, while longer-term work goes into deeper progression systems, a stronger seasonal layer covered under The Metagame, and broader content: more maps, weapons and vehicles, new vehicle types including fighter jets, expanded weapon categories, and additional objective variations.
