Virtua Fighter Crossroads is structured as an omnibus story told through four protagonists. Instead of following one hero, the campaign weaves together separate viewpoints, each belonging to a fighter driven by personal convictions and weighed down by their own past. Their paths cross in Vilasapara, and the choices each makes ripple outward to forge alliances, set consequences, and shape how their stories end. The studio has described all four as entirely new characters created for Crossroads.

As of the latest showing, only one of the four has been named and shown in depth: Cielo, an outsider who arrives in the city and is quickly drawn into its underground fighting scene. The remaining three protagonists have been confirmed to exist as distinct, playable perspectives, but their identities, backgrounds, and how their arcs intersect have not yet been detailed.

Because the four stories overlap, a character who is an ally in one protagonist's path may stand on the other side in another. This crossroads structure is the foundation of the game's Story Mode and the reason the same events can be experienced from multiple angles.
