The First Guardian is the player character of The Relic: First Guardian and the figure the title refers to. Within the story, the Guardian is described as the last hope of Arsiltus, the one called to gather the world's lingering Relics, defeat the monsters that now roam it, and lead the land back to prosperity.
Defined by Relics, Not Levels
The Guardian does not advance through traditional character levels. Growth instead comes from collecting Relics, also called Runes, and equipping them. Each Relic carries one of more than 70 unique passive effects that can reshape skill behaviour, alter combat tempo, or enhance specific weapon styles. By choosing which Relics to equip, the player decides what kind of Guardian they want to become, shifting growth toward in-world experiences rather than experience points. The full system is covered on the Relics and Runes System page.
A Custom Class
The Guardian's fighting identity is built from the combination of weapons and skills the player chooses. With five weapon types and twelve exclusive skill trees available, abilities can be blended together to form an entirely unique class rather than picking from a fixed list. This means no two Guardians need to play the same way: the character is shaped by the player's choices of gear, Relics, and skills over the course of the journey.
Specific details about the Guardian's identity within the story, such as a name, origin, or backstory, have not been detailed publicly ahead of launch. This page will be updated as that information is confirmed.
