Faction relationships are a core system in The God Slayer, shaping how Cheng interacts with the world and what options are available to him during missions. The game's Steam description summarizes the social gameplay: players "cultivate allies, trade favors, and bribe the right officials" as part of navigating the Zhou Kingdom's power structure. Building standing with specific groups unlocks unique abilities, mission paths, and story content.
The Star Fall Society
The Star Fall Society is the primary anti-Celestial resistance movement and Cheng's primary factional affiliation. Led by The Master, the Society operates from hidden bases throughout the capital's underground network. Alignment with the Society provides:
Intelligence: briefings on Celestial movements, patrol schedules, and target vulnerabilities
Stealth gadgets: smoke devices, distractions, and infiltration aids that support non-combat mission approaches
Blueprints: crafting schematics and equipment designs acquired through the Society's network of contacts
Mission support: extraction plans, safe house access, and logistical backing for operations
Cheng begins the game as a Star Fall Society recruit and gradually rises through the ranks. By mid-game, he transitions from following orders to directing operations, gaining authority over the resistance's strategic direction.
The Celestials
The Celestials are the divine rulers of the Zhou Kingdom, maintaining power through a combination of genuine worship, fear, and the harvesting of human Qi for their own immortality. Each boss encounter pits Cheng against a Celestial Warden who embodies a specific element. The Celestials are not a faction the player can align with; they are the antagonists. However, some former Celestial servants have defected, and their role in the game's faction dynamics is part of the story.
City Factions
Beyond the Society and the Celestials, various unnamed city factions compete for influence within the capital's power structure. These include:
Political officials: bureaucrats and administrators who run the day-to-day governance of the city under Celestial oversight
Nobles: wealthy families with their own agendas, resources, and networks of influence
Other power groups: merchants, guild leaders, and community figures whose support or opposition affects Cheng's options

NPC Relationships and Mission Impact
Individual NPC relationships are distinct from broader faction standing.
