11The Age of Safekeeping, subtitled The Present, is the first period Elliot and Faie inhabit and the starting point of the adventure. It is their home era. Humanity's sole bastion in this time is the Kingdom of Huther, kept safe by a magic barrier born from Princess Heuria's innate powers. The rest of the continent of Philabieldia is overrun by beast tribes.2233The Kingdom of Huther445566The people of Huther live peacefully thanks to the princess's spell of Safekeeping, which repels the beast tribes from the kingdom's borders. The spell is deeply personal: Princess Heuria must remain in the castle at all times to sustain it. Though she longs to see the outside world, she cannot leave without putting everyone inside at risk. The spell's origins and the extent of its power beyond day-to-day protection are not covered on this page.7788How the Adventure Begins991010The catalyst for Elliot's journey is the discovery of previously unknown ruins outside the kingdom. His old friend Euygene, the royal scholar and foremost magic researcher in Huther, recommends Elliot to investigate them. That commission draws Elliot into a mission far larger than exploration: the quest to lift the curse on Princess Heuria, which sets him on the path through the Doorway of Time and backward through the four ages.11111212Key Figures13131414CharacterRoleNotable DetailElliotProtagonist adventurerAn orphan who earns his living helping townspeople and donates part of his income to the orphanage where he grew upFaieFairy sidekickOnly Elliot can see or hear her; her memories before meeting Elliot are hazyPrincess HeuriaCursed princess of HutherHer innate magic sustains the kingdom's protective spell; must remain in the castle at all timesKing HichardKing of HutherA benevolent ruler whose royal precept is "Be not a prisoner of power"; worries for his daughterKaifriedRoyal minister and capable swordsmanShrewd; disagrees with the king's reliance on Heuria's magic and advocates acquiring new magics for the kingdomEuygeneRoyal scholarA former adventurer who gave it up early; recommends his old friend Elliot for the ruins expedition15+Shrines and Exploration Routes16+17+RouteWhere to continueLife shrinesThis age has six.
