Wallace is the starting hero of Tears of Metal, available from the first campaign. He fights with a sword and a combo kit built around Strikes and Finishers, and he was the playable hero in the public betas and the free demo before the Early Access launch on July 22, 2026. The other launch heroes, Ruadh Stonecrusher and Brienne, are unlocked through play; see Playable Heroes for the full roster.

Weapons
Wallace has the most documented equipment of the three launch heroes. The demo added an extra weapon and skins for him, and players could strengthen him and the wider army with weapons, trinkets and skins.
Weapon | What Is Known |
|---|---|
Flamberge | A sword. Its cost was cut from nine Dragonstones to three on July 24, 2026 |
Celtic Longsword | Purchasable for 500 triskelle since July 24, 2026 |
Secret weapon | A secret weapon chest in the campaign grants a piece of it, and the campaign shop stops offering the piece once the weapon is unlocked |
The July 24, 2026 patch also fixed the secret weapon chest not granting its reward to other players in co-op.
Committed Charge
Wallace's Committed Charge grants 35% damage resistance. The in-game description originally showed the figure as -35% and was corrected on July 24, 2026. The same patch fixed one of his attacks failing to hit enemies at its maximum range.
Seraphic Blade
Certain pieces of the Seraphic Blade can only be obtained after completing the game once with Wallace. A September 8, 2026 patch closed a gap that let players collect those pieces early in multiplayer, and made the blade unlock as soon as all of its pieces are collected rather than when the level is completed. Paper Cult has not said which hero wields the Seraphic Blade.
