11The Void is the open-ocean boundary biome that surrounds the playable area of Subnautica 2. It is pitch-black, lacks the lighting and resource density of the moon's interior biomes, and is the habitat of the Shiver Leviathan. The Void is reached by crossing the map-edge boundary from any of the named biomes; there is no scripted entry sequence, and the transition is signalled primarily by the loss of biome ambience and the rapid darkening of the surrounding water.2233Defining Features4455Pitch-black water at all depths, with no biome lighting from terrain or flora. No interior terrain. The Void contains no readable seafloor inside the visible draw distance; biome floors slope downward and are not part of the navigable play space.Habitat of the Shiver Leviathan, the pack-hunting void-dweller. No leviathan species in the live build other than the Shiver Leviathan is confirmed to spawn here.No named resource nodes. Resource pickup density in the Void is effectively zero compared to interior biomes.6677Reaching The Void8899The Void can be reached from any named biome by travelling far enough in any direction past the named biome boundary. The transition is biome-driven rather than scripted; if the player is in a Tadpole or carried by a Wakemaker, the change in ambient lighting and music is the primary cue that the boundary has been crossed.101011111212In the launch build there is no story-required reason to enter the Void. The biome exists primarily as a soft world boundary and as a vehicle for the Shiver Leviathan encounter. Entering the Void deliberately is treated by the build as an extreme-difficulty traversal challenge rather than as a discovery loop.13131414Navigation And Survival15151616ConcernEffect in the VoidPlayer ResponseVisibilityEffectively zero outside the immediate vehicle envelope.Carry flares and pre-set Tadpole headings before crossing the boundary.PredationShiver Leviathan packs intercept any sustained presence.Hold a single straight heading rather than turning, then break for the nearest named biome on detection.ResourcesNo reliable pickups in launch build.Treat the Void as a transit zone, not a farming zone.OxygenNo air pockets, no plants.Plan the round trip against survival mechanics before crossing.1717Status In The Live Build18181919The Void is in the Early Access launch build as of 2026-05-14. It is the only biome with the open-ocean / map-edge profile. The Early Access and Development Roadmap does not commit to extending the Void with named interior content; large-scale changes to the biome's structure should be expected only as part of the post-Early Access expansion content, not the 1.1 or 1.2 updates.202021212222See Also23232424The Shiver LeviathanThe full Biomes overview. The Leviathan-Class Organisms classification.25252626Depth Profile27272828The Shiver Leviathan is reported to inhabit the Void at depths around 5,000 m in the current Early Access build. Building restrictions in the Void make it effectively inaccessible to safe long-stay exploration; the biome is intended as a hostile boundary rather than a region the player establishes a presence in.29293030The route to the announced future Xanadu region and the World Tree crosses the Void, so any later content drop that opens that path will route through Shiver Leviathan territory.
