Seatruck
The Seatruck is a modular vehicle from Subnautica: Below Zero. Its design combines the roles of both the Seamoth (personal exploration) and the Cyclops (mobile base) into a single modular platform. The cab operates alone as a fast, nimble submersible; attaching trailer-style modules adds functionality at the cost of speed. The Seatruck does not return in Subnautica 2, but the Tadpole incorporates aspects of its design.
Modular system
The Seatruck's cab connects to rear-mounted modules via magnetic docking clamps. Modules chain together in a line, forming a train-like configuration. The more modules attached, the slower and less maneuverable the Seatruck becomes. Players could detach modules at any time, leaving them anchored in place while scouting ahead with just the cab.
Module | Function |
|---|---|
Storage Module | Adds cargo space with wall-mounted lockers for resource storage. |
Fabricator Module | Contains a wall-mounted Fabricator for crafting items on the go. |
Aquarium Module | A glass-walled module for transporting live creatures and growing plants. |
Docking Module | Allows the Prawn Suit to dock and recharge, replacing the Cyclops vehicle bay. |
Sleeper Module | Provides a bed for passing time, a jukebox, and personal storage. |
Teleportation Module | Enables teleportation between the module and a linked base. |

Design philosophy
The Seatruck represented a different approach to vehicle progression than the original Subnautica. Instead of three distinct vehicles (Seamoth, Cyclops, Prawn Suit), Below Zero offered one platform that scaled with the player's needs. Early in the game, the cab alone functioned like a Seamoth. Adding modules gradually turned it into something closer to a Cyclops.
Community reception was mixed. Some players appreciated the flexibility of mixing and matching modules. Others missed the distinct identities and progression milestones that separate vehicles provided. The Cyclops in particular had a strong following, and many players felt the Seatruck could not fully replace the experience of piloting a massive submarine.
Influence on Subnautica 2
The Tadpole in Subnautica 2 is described by the development team as combining "the positive aspects of the Seatruck" with "the fluid movement of the Seamoth." The Tadpole features modular chassis elements (including "manta ray fin" panels) rather than the Seatruck's trailer chain. This suggests the developers took the modularity concept from the Seatruck but applied it to a single vehicle's frame rather than a train of separate modules.
