Seaglide
The Seaglide is a handheld personal propulsion device featured in the original Subnautica and Below Zero. Held in the player's hands like a scuba scooter, it provides a significant boost to swimming speed. The Seaglide was typically one of the first tools players crafted after the Scanner. In Subnautica 2, the Seaglide is replaced by the Wakemaker, a wearable booster system.
Design
The Seaglide is a compact, torpedo-shaped device with two rear propellers. The player holds it with both hands while swimming, preventing the use of other tools simultaneously. The front features a built-in holographic minimap that displays nearby terrain, providing basic navigation assistance while in motion.

Gameplay role
The Seaglide was the first speed upgrade available to players before they could build a Seamoth. It dramatically reduced travel time between locations and made it easier to escape aggressive creatures. However, because it occupied the player's hands, it could not be used alongside the Scanner, Flashlight, or other tools. Players frequently switched between the Seaglide and other equipment depending on the situation.
The Battery powering the Seaglide drained with use and needed to be replaced periodically. Players typically carried spare Batteries for longer expeditions. In Below Zero, the Seaglide retained the same design and function.
The Wakemaker replacement
In Subnautica 2, the Seaglide's role is filled by the Wakemaker. Unlike the Seaglide, the Wakemaker is a wearable device (underwater boosters attached to the player's body) rather than a handheld tool. This design change means players can use other equipment while benefiting from the speed boost, addressing the Seaglide's main limitation. The Wakemaker fits into Subnautica 2's broader vehicle lineup alongside the Tadpole (exploration submersible) and Dive Elevator (vertical transport).
