Halfmoons hide in sea whip patches and school with Bluemoons, Harvestmoons, and occasionally a Waxmoon. A chased Halfmoon darts left and right or swims flat along the bottom to shake a pursuer.

1010 Its databank entry, generated under the name Moliform luna, describes a plankton-straining forage fish built for agility, with flow-sensing neuromasts packed along the body and holes in the front fins that let it reverse direction quickly. It also notes a quirk: the Halfmoon cannot distinguish stimuli it causes from changes in the world around it, is easily fascinated by bright light, and sometimes swims sideways as if disoriented.
