STRANGER THAN HEAVEN is developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by SEGA. It is led by studio head and executive director Masayoshi Yokoyama, with Hiroyuki Sakamoto as producer and Mikinobu Abe as game director.
From Project Century to Stranger Than Heaven
The game was first teased in late 2024 under the working title Project Century. Its official title was revealed in 2025 alongside two teaser trailers. A third teaser in March 2026 introduced the five eras, a detailed presentation followed in May 2026, and a full cast and release-date reveal came in June 2026.
The project was originally conceived as a trilogy that would follow its protagonist across the decades, but the team consolidated it into a single title to avoid splitting the experience. Its main story was developed over roughly six to seven years, a reflection of its unusual scale.
Music and Voice
The game uses a single multilingual audio track, switching between Japanese and English by scene to preserve the authenticity of each era. Its theme song, also titled Stranger Than Heaven, is performed by Snoop Dogg, Satoshi Fujihara, Ado, and Tori Kelly, all of whom also portray characters in the game. The game is playable with text in thirteen languages, while full voice acting is provided in English and Japanese.
The audio track is fixed rather than selectable: the published language table lists the voice language as unchangeable, with subtitles available in thirteen languages.
