Overview
State of Decay 3 is in pre-launch development and detailed PC system requirements have not yet been publicly confirmed by Undead Labs or Xbox Game Studios. The public Steam app 1340720 listing currently shows only an operating system entry. This page will be updated as the closed alpha and later reveals make CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage targets concrete.

Confirmed Platforms
Platform | Status |
|---|---|
Xbox Series X | Confirmed |
Xbox Series S | Confirmed |
PlayStation 5 | Confirmed at the June 2026 reveal |
PC, Steam | Confirmed (Steam app 1340720) |
PC, Microsoft Store with Xbox Play Anywhere | Confirmed |
Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch | Not announced |
Pre-Launch PC Requirements
Tier | Operating System | Other Components |
|---|---|---|
Minimum | Windows 10 (64-bit) | Detailed components to be confirmed |
Recommended | Windows 10 (64-bit) | Detailed components to be confirmed |
The console storefront listing gives the PC platform as Windows 10 or Windows 11, which is slightly broader than the Steam listing's Windows 10 entry. Neither has published a CPU, GPU, memory or storage target, and there is still no separate recommended tier with real components in it.
Engine and Technical Foundation
The game is built in Unreal Engine 5. The Coalition, the Gears of War studio, is consulting on Unreal Engine 5 implementation, combat, animations, and enemy AI. The shared-save technology is Undead Labs' own and shipped first in Grounded; the third game builds on it. Obsidian Entertainment is helping on the shared-world feature. Co-development support is also coming from Blind Squirrel Entertainment and Wushu Studios.

Confirmed Languages
Eight supported languages are listed: English, French, Italian, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Latin American Spanish. Only English ships with full audio. The other seven are interface and subtitle support only, which the store listing marks with a footnote rather than in the language names themselves. Additional languages may be added before launch.
Rating and Purchases
The game is rated Mature 17+, with content descriptors for Intense Violence and Blood and Gore. The console storefront listing additionally declares in-game purchases as an interactive element. No storefront has published a price, an edition list, or what those purchases cover.
What the Console Listing Does Specify
Although no CPU, GPU, RAM or storage figures have been published, the console storefront listing for the PC build is more specific than the Steam entry in two respects. It requires a 64-bit (x64) processor architecture, and it names a minimum Windows 10 build rather than just the operating system family.
Requirement | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
Operating system | Windows 10 version 18362.0 or higher | Windows 10 version 18362.0 or higher |
Architecture | x64 | x64 |
Both listings currently repeat the same value in the minimum and recommended columns, which is the usual placeholder pattern for a game that has not finished performance work. The install size shown on the listing is also clearly a placeholder rather than a real figure. Treat the operating system and architecture entries as the only hardware-adjacent facts that are actually published.
Controller and Input Support
Full controller support is listed on the storefront for the PC build, which means the game is playable end to end on a gamepad without keyboard and mouse input. Captions are also listed as available. No key rebinding, ultrawide, frame rate cap or accessibility feature list has been published yet.
Age Ratings by Region
Beyond the North American Mature 17+ rating, three other boards have classified the game. These appear on the storefront listing rather than in any announcement.
Board | Region | Rating |
|---|---|---|
ESRB | North America | Mature 17+, for Intense Violence and Blood and Gore, with In-Game Purchases declared as an interactive element |
USK | Germany | 18, for drastic violence, alcohol and tobacco, and coarse language |
DEJUS | Brazil | 16, for extreme violence, inappropriate language and fear |
IGRS | Indonesia | 18, for tobacco and alcohol references, horror and violence |
No European PEGI rating has appeared on any listing yet.
Why Requirements Have Not Been Published Yet
Detailed PC requirements for State of Decay 3 have not yet been published because the game is still in pre-launch development and the May 2026 closed alpha is the first public-facing playable build. The public Steam app 1340720 listing currently shows only an operating system entry on the PC side, with no CPU, GPU, RAM, or storage targets. Those targets typically firm up later in development as performance optimization passes settle on a stable target.
What Is Confirmed About the PC Build
On the platform side, the PC release is confirmed to ship on Steam (Steam app 1340720) and the Microsoft Store with Xbox Play Anywhere. The Microsoft Store version is the one that links a single Xbox account's entitlement across an Xbox Series X|S console and a Windows PC, while the Steam version is a storefront-specific license. Four-player Online Co-Op and Cross-Platform Play are confirmed as supported features.
What Is Confirmed About the Console Build
On the console side, both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are confirmed targets. The third entry is confirmed for PlayStation 5 in addition to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and is not announced for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or Nintendo Switch. The game is being built around a current-generation console baseline rather than a cross-generation footprint.
How the Targets Will Be Filled In
Closed alpha invitations have started rolling out as of mid-May 2026, and the alpha is the first time members of the public will be able to run the game on their own hardware. As the alpha and later test waves expose the game to a wider PC hardware mix, the studio will be in a better position to publish concrete CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage tiers. This page will be updated as soon as those targets are published in official materials, alongside the dedicated Closed Alpha Playtest page where the test program itself is tracked.
What Is Not yet Public
Minimum and recommended CPU models and clock targets.
Minimum and recommended GPU models, VRAM, and feature-level requirements (mesh shaders, ray tracing, upscaling support).
Minimum and recommended system RAM.
Install footprint on storage, and any SSD requirement.
Console performance modes (resolution targets, framerate caps, dynamic resolution behaviour) on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PlayStation 5.
Linux or Steam Deck verification status.
