New article: slingshot crafting, ammo, and usage guide
After you complete the main tutorial and Solara sets up your phone, you can claim a reward from the Island Life app called Basic Tools Manual. This unlocks the ability to craft a Slingshot at your worktable.
The recipe is simple:
2x Softwood (pick up from the ground or chop trees with your Axe)
2x Fiber (cut shrubs and wildflowers with your Axe)
But a Slingshot without ammo is just a stick and some string. You need to make Stone Ammo before you can actually use it.
Head to the Exploration Club to get started with ammo. The Exploration Club is Zephyria's home, located above the Green Pasture Ranch on the hill. It is not the first building with archery targets nearby; it is the one above that. You will get a cutscene as you approach.
After talking to Zephyria, he will give you a quest to make ammo. Inside the Exploration Club, interact with the cash register in the first room to buy the ammo recipe. There is a crafting table next to the blackboard where you can make ammo right away.
You can also buy the Ammo Maker table recipe. Build it at home and craft ammo there instead of walking to the Exploration Club every time. The recipe: 5x Stone = 2x Stone Ammo.
Equip the Slingshot from your hotbar. Use the mouse wheel to switch items on the hotbar, and ALT + mouse wheel to switch between your two quick-access bars. Aim the crosshair at your target and left-click to fire. Hold left-click for a charged shot that does more damage. Right-click to switch between different ammo types in your bag.
Press the back left button + D-pad down to switch between hotbars. Back left button + D-pad left/right to switch between items. Right trigger to shoot (hold it for a charged attack). A to swap between ammo types.
Zephyria will tell you to use it for self-defense against creatures, but it has other uses too. You need the Slingshot to break down the Damaged Door near your home that leads to the Moonlit Forest. Aim at the yellow spots between the cracks in the door (they look like copper ore but they are weak points). There are two of them.
Your first combat target is a Runebird, which Zephyria asks you to find after you make your ammo. The Runebird is in the second area of the Moonlit Forest, near the Gate of Life. See the Moonlit Forest walkthrough for details.
