Servers and Regions

Created a page covering official servers, the four regions, quadrants, and the quadrant transfer timeline
SpaceCraft runs on servers the developer operates. There is no self-hosting option, so which region and which quadrant you pick determines who you can play with and, in practice, where your bases live. This page collects what has been confirmed about that infrastructure.
The whole game is hosted on official servers. The developer has addressed private hosting directly, saying that while it appreciates the flexibility privately owned servers offer, major features and the experience would not be functional that way, and that its system does not currently allow the creation of private dedicated servers. It has acknowledged substantial demand for the feature without committing to it.
The stated capacity target is several thousand players per server. Because the universe is persistent, a server keeps running whether or not you are logged in: your factories keep producing and market prices keep moving while you are away. See Automation and Logistics and Trading and the Player-Driven Economy.
Servers were deployed in four regions for the Early Access launch. Region choice is a latency decision first, but it also determines which population you share a galaxy with.
Region | Notes |
|---|---|
Europe | The playtest ran on EU servers only, so this was the first region to exist. |
North America | Added for the Early Access launch. |
Asia | Added for the Early Access launch. |
Mainland China | Added for the Early Access launch, alongside Simplified Chinese localisation. |
During the closed playtest, servers were limited to the Europe region, and the developer warned players outside it that their ping could be heavily affected. That restriction ended at launch. See Early Access.
Each server is called a Quadrant. The universe is split across them, which has one consequence that matters more than any other: you and a friend have to be in the same quadrant to play together. Being in the same region is not enough on its own.
You choose a quadrant when you start, and the selection screen shows where your Steam friends are so you can join them. A June 2026 patch fixed friends’ names failing to appear on that screen when hovering the green person icon, which had made the check harder than it should have been.
Quadrant transfer is handled in person rather than through a menu. You talk to a dedicated NPC near the elevator at the space station hub of Raqmu. What survives the move is limited, so it is worth knowing before you commit.
What happens to it | Detail |
|---|---|
Kept | Your in-game progression, your inventory, your current ship, and your credits. |
Lost | Access to your bases, and your galaxy-map exploration. |
Reset | Any unfinished missions restart as if they had just been taken. |
In other words a transfer moves the character, not the industry. Anyone with a developed base network should treat it as a decision to rebuild rather than relocate. See Base Building.
The feature had a difficult start, and the timeline is worth setting out because it ran across most of the first two months of Early Access.
Date | What changed |
|---|---|
June 15, 2026 | Quadrant transfer introduced via the NPC in Raqmu, then disabled in the same announcement once a progression issue was found. |
June 19, 2026 | A fix landed for transfers that could result in lost progress. |
August 18, 2026 | Quadrant transfers were enabled again. |
The same August update also fixed a hardlock that trapped players inside Corporation ships after they were no longer part of the Corporation, which is the other way a player could end up stuck across an organisational boundary. See Updates and Patch Notes and Corporations and Co-Op.
Region selection lives in the options menu, and it is also the route to offline play: open Options, choose Change Region, then select Offline Mode. Because offline is presented as a region rather than a separate save menu, switching back to an online region returns you to your online character. Progress does not cross between the two. See Solo Offline Mode.
The developer has been explicit that server work is unfinished. Its own Early Access statement lists ongoing maintenance, lag reduction and infrastructure improvements as planned throughout Early Access, alongside general performance optimisation. Expect the region and quadrant picture to keep changing, and check in game rather than assuming a capacity figure or a transfer rule still holds.
