Endings

SILENT HILL: Townfall has five endings. Three can be reached during a first playthrough, and two further secret endings become available in New Game Plus. Jon McKellan gave that breakdown at a developer roundtable held after the July press sessions.
Store copy keeps it vaguer: "Endings shaped by the player's actions leave a lasting emotional impression long after the story comes to an end." One earlier interview referred to a single secret ending rather than two, which reads as a simplification of the same structure rather than a different count. Until the game is out, treat five as the working figure.
There is no branching choice at the end. "They're not based on the A, B choices. It's more how you play, the things that you've done, the time you've spent in areas," McKellan has said. "We're trying to kind of... our ending system kind of tries to figure out what kind of player you were and what kind of ending feels natural to the way you played."
That statement names three things, and they are the only inputs the studio has put on the record.
What was named | What it covers |
|---|---|
How you play | The player's approach across the whole run rather than a decision taken at the end. |
The things you've done | Actions taken through the game. McKellan has separately described those actions as building up to one of the three main outcomes. |
Time spent in areas | How long the player lingers in a given place. |
Beyond those three, the specifics in circulation are secondhand descriptions of the same interview rather than separately named inputs. They cover how much of the island of St. Amelia the player looks at rather than walks past, whether optional discoveries get rushed by, and whether encounters are approached aggressively. Read them as an account of that one statement, not as a published list of what the system measures. Whether Simon fights, evades or hides is covered on Combat and Stealth.
Okamoto has described the structure as deliberately not requiring repeat runs to see the main content. "All three main endings can be reached right from your first playthrough, whereas the secret ending becomes accessible after clearing the game once," he has said, adding that players are not forced to replay the game two or three times just to see all the primary endings.
Both men have said more about the game elsewhere, collected on Jon McKellan and Motoi Okamoto.
Konami has been explicit that none of the endings is designated as the true one. "From our perspective, we don't designate any single ending as the true canon ending," Okamoto said. "We are aware that a lot of players personally take to heart that a certain ending is canon... but we take care not to signal that any one ending is more canon than the other." McKellan put it the same way: "I don't think there's a canon of this is what happened."
New Game Plus exists and holds the two remaining endings. McKellan has said repeat runs feature unlockable weapons and other additions designed to make revisiting the game quicker. Nothing further about New Game Plus has been published, including which weapons unlock or what carries over.
No guide to steering toward a specific ending exists yet, because nothing published explains how the system weighs its inputs. That will only be answerable once players have the full game. The ending count itself is a pre-launch figure taken from developer statements rather than from a shipped build.
