Rewrite to focus on Roco Kingdom: World's development and IP heritage; remove out-of-scope 2010 browser-game milestones, 2011-2015 film table, multimedia expansion, and target-audience-evolution sections.
Roco Kingdom: World is the modern 3D open-world entry in Tencent's long-running Roco Kingdom franchise. This page focuses on how Roco Kingdom: World came to be, the IP heritage it draws from, and the development milestones that led to its March 26, 2026 launch. For everything about the live game's mechanics, content, and ongoing updates, see the rest of this wiki.
The Roco Kingdom IP debuted in 2010 as a Tencent-published children's title and went on to become one of the most successful children's entertainment properties in China across games, animated films, books, and merchandise. Roco Kingdom: World is positioned as the "IP orthodox sequel," meaning it is the official continuation of the franchise's core storyline and gameplay philosophy, endorsed by the original creators. The earlier franchise entries are out of scope for this wiki, which covers only Roco Kingdom: World.
Development of Roco Kingdom: World was announced in July 2020 by MoreFun Studios (also known as Magic Mirror Studio), a Tencent Games subsidiary. The project was the franchise's most ambitious to date: a fully 3D open-world game built on Unreal Engine 4, designed to bring the classic Roco Kingdom experience to PC, Android, iOS, and HarmonyOS with full cross-platform progression.
The project was originally titled "Roco Kingdom Mobile" before being renamed in December 2024 to reflect its scope as a full cross-platform open-world experience rather than a mobile-only release. Development spanned more than six years, with multiple public testing phases that reshaped the spirit roster, combat tuning, and monetization model based on player feedback.
Date | Milestone |
|---|---|
July 2020 | Roco Kingdom: World development announced under the working title "Roco Kingdom Mobile." |
December 2024 | Project rebranded to Roco Kingdom: World to reflect its cross-platform, open-world scope. |
March 26, 2026 | Public launch on PC, Android, iOS, and HarmonyOS in China. |
Roco Kingdom: World aims to preserve the franchise's spirit-collecting core and visual identity while modernizing every system: a single open continent in place of segmented browser maps, a fully voice-acted main storyline, turn-based combat with lineup construction mechanics, and full cross-platform play with cross-progression. Importantly, every spirit is obtainable through normal play; there is no gacha system for acquiring spirits.
Post-launch, the team has committed to a two-month seasonal cadence with a major world update roughly every six months, plus more than 200 new spirits per year. See the patch notes for the running change log.
