Initial creation of Breeding and Eggs article covering egg types, hatching mechanics, inheritance, and strategies
Breeding is a core gameplay system in Roco Kingdom: World that allows players to produce new Spirits through the egg system. By pairing two compatible Spirits together, players can hatch offspring with inherited stats, natures, and special traits. Breeding is tightly integrated into the Spirit Travel (精灵旅行) system, which serves as the primary framework for managing the breeding process from pairing through hatching.
Before players can begin breeding, they must first complete Chapter 3 of the main story to unlock the Home System. The Home provides the necessary facilities for pairing Spirits, incubating eggs, and managing offspring. Without access to the Home System, the breeding menu and related functions remain locked.
Several conditions must be met before two Spirits can produce an egg:
Same Egg Group (蛋组): Both Spirits must belong to the same Egg Group. There are 15 Egg Groups in total, and each Spirit species is assigned to one or more groups. Spirits that share at least one Egg Group in common are considered compatible for breeding.
Opposite Genders: The two Spirits must be of opposite genders. Male and female Spirits of compatible Egg Groups will produce an egg. Genderless Spirits cannot breed through the standard system.
Home System Unlocked: Players must have completed Chapter 3 of the main story to gain access to the Home System, which houses the breeding and incubation facilities.
There are 15 Egg Groups that categorize all breedable Spirits. Each Egg Group contains Spirits that share biological or thematic similarities. Some Spirits belong to multiple Egg Groups, which increases their compatibility with a wider range of partners. Legendary and mythical Spirits typically belong to the "Undiscovered" Egg Group and cannot breed.
Once two compatible Spirits are placed together in the breeding facility within the Home System, they will eventually produce an egg. The species of the offspring is always determined by the mother. If the mother is a Flame Fox, the egg will hatch into a Flame Fox regardless of the father's species. The father's primary contribution is passing down bloodline traits, which can influence the offspring's potential and hidden characteristics.
After an egg is produced, it must be incubated before it hatches. Hatching time varies by species and ranges from as short as 0.5 hours to as long as 20 hours. However, eggs do not hatch passively based on real-world time alone. Hatching requires player movement: walking, running, or flying across the open world accumulates hatching progress. This mechanic is similar in concept to egg hatching in other creature collection games, where physical steps translate into incubation progress.
Players can incubate up to 3 eggs simultaneously. This means trainers who are active explorers can work toward hatching multiple offspring during a single play session. Riding a mount Spirit across the map is one of the most efficient ways to accumulate hatching progress quickly, as flying and sprinting cover more ground per unit of time than walking.
Not all eggs are equal. Roco Kingdom: World features several distinct egg types, each with its own properties and methods of acquisition. The egg type determines what kind of Spirit will hatch and what guaranteed qualities the offspring will have.
Egg Type | Source | Guaranteed Properties |
|---|---|---|
Standard Egg | Normal breeding between two compatible Spirits | Species matches the mother; stats and traits are randomized with inheritance chances |
Perfect Egg | Special breeding conditions or rare drop | Guaranteed "Outstanding" talent tier on the hatched Spirit |
Story Egg | Given by NPC Iris during story progression | Guaranteed "Outstanding" talent tier; comes with the Co-ride trait, allowing the hatched Spirit to serve as a mount |
Self-select Chromatic Egg | Earned after obtaining 10 chromatic variants of the same species | Allows the player to choose the specific pattern and color of the hatched Spirit's chromatic variant |
Chromatic Egg | Breeding with chromatic parent Spirits or special events | Guaranteed chromatic variant on the hatched Spirit |
Shiny Egg | Breeding with shiny parent Spirits or rare occurrence | Guaranteed shiny variant on the hatched Spirit |
Story Eggs are particularly noteworthy because they are handed out by the NPC Iris at specific points in the narrative. These eggs always produce Spirits with the "Outstanding" talent grade and the Co-ride trait, making them valuable early-game companions that double as mounts.
When an egg hatches, the offspring inherits certain attributes from its parents. Inheritance is probabilistic rather than guaranteed, meaning each stat and trait has a chance of being passed down.
Nature: The offspring has a chance to inherit the nature of either parent. Natures affect stat growth rates, so breeding for a desirable nature is a common strategy among competitive players.
Individual Values (IVs): Each Spirit has hidden individual values that determine its baseline stat potential. Parents can pass down their IVs to offspring with a certain probability. Higher IV parents tend to produce stronger children.
Talent Grade: Talent grades range from common tiers up to "Outstanding." The parents' talent grades influence the offspring's talent, with higher-grade parents increasing the odds of a high-grade offspring.
Shiny and Chromatic Traits: Having one or both parents be shiny or chromatic increases the probability that the offspring will also be a special variant. While not guaranteed through normal breeding, stacking special-variant parents significantly improves the odds.
Using a Royal Ball during the hatching process guarantees that the offspring will have the maximum talent grade. This is the most reliable method for producing top-tier Spirits, though Royal Balls are rare and valuable items. Trainers aiming for competitive-grade Spirits often save their Royal Balls for eggs produced by parents with strong IVs and desirable natures, maximizing the value of each Royal Ball used.
Experienced trainers approach breeding with specific goals in mind. The most common strategies include:
Nature Hunting: Repeatedly breed Spirits until offspring with the optimal nature for a given role (physical attacker, special attacker, tank, etc.) is produced.
IV Optimization: Pair parents with complementary high IVs to gradually produce offspring with strong stats across the board. Over multiple generations, IVs can be refined toward near-perfect values.
Shiny Chaining: Use shiny or chromatic parents to boost the probability of hatching special variant offspring. Combining two special-variant parents yields the highest chances.
Egg Move Passing: Certain Spirits can learn moves through breeding that they cannot learn through normal leveling. By choosing the right father, trainers can pass exclusive moves to the offspring's move pool.
Always check Egg Group compatibility before committing to a breeding pair. The in-game Spirit detail screen displays each Spirit's Egg Group assignments.
Ride a flying mount Spirit while incubating eggs. Flying covers the most distance in the least time, accelerating hatching progress significantly.
Save Royal Balls for eggs from high-IV, desirable-nature parents. Using a Royal Ball on a suboptimal egg wastes a rare resource.
If you need a specific species but only have the father, find a mother of that species in the wild first. The mother always determines offspring species.
Visit friends' worlds to catch starter Spirits you did not choose at the beginning. These can expand your breeding options with new Egg Group coverage.
