11Washbear Studio is a small independent game studio that develops and publishes Railborn. The studio is a two-person team and is an Epic Games MegaGrants recipient.2233History4455Washbear Studio was founded by Chris McQuinn and Mayuran Thurairatnam. Both developers previously worked at Drinkbox Studios, where they were part of the team behind games including Guacamelee!, Mutant Blobs Attack, and Severed.6677Washbear Studio's first game was Parkasaurus, a dinosaur park management simulation game released on Steam. Parkasaurus received a Sea Monsters DLC following the base game's release.889+Parkasaurus launched in 2020 on Steam and Nintendo Switch after its own Early Access period, and the studio has said it went on to sell more than 200,000 copies and received two pieces of downloadable content. The studio points to that Early Access run as the reason it is taking the same route with Railborn.10+911Railborn10121113After the success of Parkasaurus, Washbear Studio began development on Railborn, a first-person survival game centered on train construction and navigation of a dying alien world. Railborn was announced at the PC Gaming Show on June 8, 2025.121415+The concept did not start there, though. The studio has said the original idea came out of an internal prototyping event more than six years before the 2025 reveal and was set aside because the technology to build it was not available at the time. The team returned to the design roughly two years before announcing it.16+1317Recognition14181519The studio received the National Bank Special Prize during the 2019 Ubisoft Indie Series in Ontario.16201721Community and Communication18221923Washbear Studio maintains active community channels including Discord, Steam forums, and social media.
