Zubat is a Poison/Flying-type Pokemon in Pokemon Pokopia, classified as the Bat Pokemon (Dex #081). Zubat is a nocturnal Pokemon that only appears at night, making it one of the time-restricted spawns in the game. It can be found in two habitats: Tree-Shaded Yellow Tall Grass and Park Bench, both located in the Bleak Beach region. Zubat carries the Search specialty, which helps players find buried items using the Dowsing Machine. Zubat is the first stage in a three-Pokemon evolutionary line that includes Golbat and Crobat.
Zubat can spawn at two different habitats. Both require nighttime for Zubat to appear.
Item | Quantity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Yellow Tall Grass | 4 | Found naturally in Bleak Beach |
Large Tree (any) | 1 | Any large tree species works |
Zubat appears as a Common visitor at the Tree-Shaded Yellow Tall Grass habitat, but only during the night. This habitat is located in the Bleak Beach biome.
Item | Quantity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Garbage Bin | 1 | Found near the Pokemon Center, City Gate, and S.S. Anne in Bleak Beach |
Seat (wide) | 1 | Any wide seating option works |
Zubat also appears as a Common visitor at the Park Bench habitat during the night. Garbage Bins can be collected throughout Bleak Beach, making this habitat easy to construct.
Zubat appears in Bleak Beach, the ruins of Vermilion City. This portside region is cloaked in darkness, and its main questline involves restoring electricity to the area. The dark atmosphere of Bleak Beach makes it a natural home for nocturnal Pokemon like Zubat. Since Zubat only appears at night, players should check their habitats during evening and nighttime hours.
Build either the Tree-Shaded Yellow Tall Grass or Park Bench habitat in Bleak Beach. Wait until nighttime, and Zubat will appear at the habitat. Walk up and interact with Zubat to befriend it. If you do not see Zubat, confirm that it is currently night in the game.
Zubat has the Search specialty. If you hold the Dowsing Machine and press the A button while walking with a Pokemon that has the Search specialty, you will start looking for buried items. The Dowsing Machine highlights hidden treasures underground, and Search-specialty Pokemon increase the detection range and frequency of finds. This makes Zubat a handy companion for treasure hunting across all regions.

All three members of the Zubat line share the Search specialty. Crobat gains the additional Chop specialty, making it the most versatile of the three. Each stage must be befriended separately through its own habitat.
Zubat only spawns at night. If you are having trouble finding it, advance the in-game clock or wait for nighttime to arrive.
Decorate Zubat's habitat area with dark, spooky, and wooden items to increase its Comfort Level.
If you want a Search Pokemon that appears during the day, consider Growlithe or other daytime Search-specialty Pokemon instead.
The Park Bench habitat is the easier of the two to construct, since Garbage Bins are scattered throughout Bleak Beach near the Pokemon Center and City Gate.
