Overview

Venomous Softblade, designated No. 13, is a weapon in Phantom Blade Zero. It is a flexible 'snake sword' whose blade can bend and undulate like a whip, then stiffen into a rigid blade for precise strikes. The Venomous Softblade specializes in counter-attacks and deflection, rewarding players who prefer defensive, reaction-based combat over aggressive offense.

Design

The blade is constructed from segmented metal sections connected by internal joints, allowing it to flex and contort in ways a normal sword cannot. When rigid, it resembles a standard straight sword. When flexible, it moves like a living serpent, striking from unexpected angles. The weapon's name reflects both its snake-like movement and the poisonous coating on its edge.

Moveset

• Whip mode attacks: mid-range strikes where the blade extends and bends around guards

• Rigid mode attacks: standard sword combos for close-range precision damage

• Counter slash: a deflection that flows directly into a retaliatory strike

• Serpent's bite: after a successful deflect, the blade coils and strikes from an unexpected angle

Counter and deflect specialization

The Venomous Softblade is designed for players who have mastered the parry and deflection system. Its counter-attacks deal significantly more damage than those of other weapons, and its deflection windows are slightly more generous. The trade-off is that its normal aggressive combos deal less damage than comparable weapons, making it weaker for players who prefer to attack first and react second.

Against bosses with fast, multi-hit combos, the Venomous Softblade excels. Each deflected hit flows into a counter that deals meaningful damage, turning an enemy's aggression into the player's offense.
