Remnant Sparks are the limited resource used by Phantom Edges in combat. These charges are distinct from the resource pools described in the Sha-Chi System: regular Sha-Chi supports main-weapon techniques and guarding, while named Power Surge attacks spend Sha-Chi Essence. Check the equipped Edge's skill description because a cost can apply to an entire sequence rather than to every individual hit.
Replenishing Sparks at Bells
Interact with a Bell to replenish Remnant Sparks. Bells also replenish Healing Gourd and Medicine uses, making them a useful preparation point before a boss or another demanding encounter. Return to a discovered Bell when the remaining Edge uses are too low for the next fight.
Recovering Sparks during combat
Some equipment effects can restore Sparks without returning to a Bell. These are conditional effects, so they should be read alongside their activation requirements.
Equipment or skill | Documented interaction | Condition |
|---|---|---|
Iron Gauntlets: Fist Guard | Costs 1 Remnant Spark to begin guarding. A successful last-moment parry restores 1 Spark and grants Fist Focus. | The refund depends on the parry. If Fist Focus is already full, its duration is extended by 2 seconds. |
Remnant Spark Cage | A Phantom Edge follow-up has a 33% chance to restore 1 Spark. | The effect is a chance, not a guaranteed refund. |
Reading a combo cost
Phantom Edge | Sequence | Cost stated for the sequence |
|---|---|---|
Flying Dagger | Up to three ranged volleys with its regular active ability. | 1 Remnant Spark for the full combo. |
Iron Gauntlets | Up to three fist attacks with the regular active ability. | 1 Remnant Spark for the full combo. |
These examples do not assign the same cost to every skill on those weapons. Flying Dagger also has a separate Windborne Step technique, and Iron Gauntlets has Fist Guard and other Fist Focus interactions. Read the selected move rather than applying the regular-combo cost to every input.
Using limited charges
Save enough Sparks for the opening where the equipped Edge is most useful. A guard-broken enemy provides an opportunity to use its damage or guard-breaking effect, while an equipment refund may help sustain later attacks. A conditional refund does not remove the need to watch the remaining resource.
