Factions

Phantom Blade Zero's world is defined by several competing factions. Which side of their conflicts Soul lands on is central to both the main-story branching and the side quests.

Confirmed Factions

• The Order: the secretive organisation Soul worked for before being framed for the patriarch's murder.

• Phantom Blade Executioners: the elite enforcers whose lineage Soul himself comes from.

Antagonists and Allies

Specific antagonists include Zuo Shang, Soul's former best friend and the Order's master strategist, and the rulers of the Seven Stars seen in the Chief Disciple Seven Stars boss fight. Soul's allies include Mu Xiaokui and the returning Leng Tu from the earlier Rainblood saga.

Political Backdrop

The game is set in the Phantom World, a version of Ming Dynasty China that has been twisted by the game's darker wuxia genre conventions. The faction politics sit on top of that political geography: kingdoms and regional powers exist inside the Phantom World alongside The Order and the Executioners.
