Comprehensive article on planet customization
Planet customization is one of the central creative systems in Petit Planet. Players reshape their planet's terrain, alter its color palette, change the sky and atmosphere, and place furniture and decorations across the landscape. Customization options expand as the player accumulates more Luca and unlocks new biomes and features.
Players can raise and lower terrain, create hills and valleys, add water features like ponds and rivers, and shape coastlines. Terrain tools range from broad sculpting brushes for large-scale changes to fine tools for detailed adjustments. The planet starts small and grows as Luca milestones are reached.
Customization extends beyond the ground. Players can dye grasslands different colors, change the hue of their sky, adjust lighting conditions, and select atmospheric effects like gentle snow or floating particles. These options allow for dramatically different visual themes across different players' planets.
The Planet Maker is an in-game app that provides a top-down or orbital view of the player's planet. From this interface, players can make large-scale changes to terrain, biome placement, and decoration layouts. It acts as the primary planning tool for players who want to design cohesive, themed planets.
The combination of terrain shaping, color tools, furniture placement, and atmospheric effects lets players create themed planets. Examples seen in pre-release materials include winter wonderland planets, tropical island planets, and cherry blossom forest planets. Players can visit each other's creations, and well-designed planets attract visitors.
Items produced through mining and crafting can be placed anywhere on the planet's surface. Furniture and decorations snap to terrain and can be rotated and scaled. The placement system supports both indoor arrangements (inside player-built structures) and outdoor landscaping.
Not all customization options are available from the start. New terrain types, color palettes, and decoration categories unlock as the player's Luca level increases and specific milestones are reached. This progression ensures that planet development feels rewarding over time.
