11The New Paper is the daily in-game newspaper in Paralives. It delivers lore-related stories about the town and gameplay-related quest opportunities. The newspaper bridges narrative storytelling with interactive gameplay systems and is delivered to every Parafolk household each morning. Reading the paper drives a meaningful portion of Live Mode for Parafolk who lean into goals and town events; ignoring it leaves a lot of optional content on the table.2233Delivery and Display4455Every morning, a newspaper is delivered to all residents. When a Parafolk first moves to a new town, they also receive an issue right away. An on-screen notification alerts the player when a new issue arrives. Opening the notification brings up a full-page popup that displays the day's news as headlines, sometimes accompanied by photos. The newspaper interface is designed to resemble a real newspaper layout, with prominent headlines and supporting imagery.6677This presentation style contributes to the game's world-building by making the town feel like a living community with its own local press and ongoing stories. Reading the paper at home is the most common path; reading it at cafes such as Creme Cafe or The Story Nook is also supported and is one of the contexts where the newspaper ambient animation fires (see Ambient Animations). The launch build allows Parafolk to read in both standing and seated poses, with the animation choice adapting to context.8899Confirmed Newspaper Sections10101111SectionType of ContentLinked SystemLore and World-BuildingHumorous and interesting stories about town happenings; references to landmarks and charactersLore and World-Building, Mayor GloombergQuests and OpportunitiesOptional tasks and activitiesGoals, Museum, Town EventsTown Events ScheduleReminders and recap for the weekly events (Park Yoga, Marketplace, Astronomy Club, Buried Treasure Hunt)Town EventsJob ListingsOnline job postings echoed in the paperCareersMarketplace ListingsFeatured goods at the Sunday marketplace stallsShoppingDiscounts and CouponsLimited-time financial offersparadimes1212Types of Headlines13131414The newspaper's two main headline categories serve different purposes. Lore headlines give the town personality and history, framing it as a place with its own ongoing narrative rather than a static backdrop. Quest headlines tie into the goals system: reading the paper can unlock new objectives for Parafolk to pursue. This makes checking the paper a mechanically rewarding habit, not just a flavor element.15151616Some examples of newspaper-driven events confirmed in the launch build:17171818Civic commentary from Mayor Gloomberg on town mattersReminders that the weekly buried-treasure hunt is happening today (or has just happened)Local color stories about town landmarks, including the castle and the lighthouseJob postings tied to named workplaces such as Bloom, Headlines, the Museum, and SuperGamezPlus Inc.Museum donation prompts asking the household to bring specific items for milestone bonusesMarketplace event teasers when the Sunday marketplace is coming upDiscount coupons that cut the price on items at L'Armoire, Market Antiques, or other shopsSpecial-event invitations that introduce time-limited gatherings or community shows19192020Mayor Gloomberg21212222Mayor Gloomberg is the town's named first elected official, and the New Paper is the primary place where players hear from the mayor. The first revealed issue of the newspaper introduced Mayor Gloomberg through a civic commentary headline, making the paper the source of the character's launch-build debut. The mayor appears frequently in subsequent issues, adding a political and personality-driven dimension to the town's narrative. See Mayor Gloomberg for the dedicated bio.23232424Town Events Connection25252626The New Paper plays a major part in surfacing Town Events. The paper is the primary in-game way to know when an event is happening and where. Without checking it, players may miss out on time-limited activities or gatherings happening around town. This design choice ties daily newspaper reading into the core Live Mode loop.27272828Each scheduled event tends to get at least one paper mention per cycle:29293030EventScheduleNewspaper Coverage StylePark YogaSun / Tue / ThuWellness reminder and Fitness skill promptMarketplaceSundayMarketplace preview with featured stallsAstronomy ClubMon / Wed / FriSky-watching color piece and Science skill promptBuried Treasure HuntThursdayBonus-item teaser, sometimes calling out a specific find for that week3131Archive System32323333An icon in the upper right corner of the newspaper interface provides access to past issues. This archive system lets players revisit previous headlines and catch up on stories they may have missed. It is not yet fully confirmed whether opportunities and quests from past issues remain available for completion or if they expire once the day has passed. The archive adds a record-keeping element to the game: players who enjoy the narrative side of Paralives can browse old issues to follow ongoing storylines, track Mayor Gloomberg's commentary over time, or simply enjoy the humor of past headlines.34343535Discounts and Financial Opportunities36363737The New Paper occasionally features discounts and financial opportunities. These can include coupons for Shopping around town, or other ways to save or earn paradimes. This adds an economic incentive to reading the newspaper daily: players can stretch their household budget by taking advantage of limited-time offers. The combination of coupons plus event teasers turns the paper into a practical budgeting tool alongside its narrative role.383839394040Goal Hooks and the New Paper41414242Goals tied to the paper are one of the launch build's most prominent optional-content sources. The Goals system surfaces new long-term objectives based on context, including recent newspaper headlines. A morning prompt about a museum donation drive, for example, can trigger a fresh goal chain tied to gathering collectibles, walking them to the donation box, and racking up milestone rewards. Goal hooks often pair with Careers advancement and Skills and Knowledge progression: a Parafolk in the Art domain might receive a museum-focused goal that doubles as Expertise Upgrade material.43434444Modding Support45454646Headlines in The New Paper can be modded and shared via the Steam Workshop, see Modding and Steam Workshop. Players can create custom newspaper content, including new lore stories, quest prompts, and humorous articles. Other players can then download and install these mods to customize what appears in their game's newspaper. This opens up creative possibilities for community storytelling and allows the newspaper system to grow beyond what the studio includes at launch.47474848Development History49495050The New Paper was first revealed during the studio's gameplay stream on November 25, 2025. The first demonstrated issue featured stories about a train accident and museum collection opportunities, along with the introduction of Mayor Gloomberg. An earlier 2025 trailer showed a vending machine labeled "Paralives News" in the town, which may suggest either the existence of competing newspapers within the game world or a name change that occurred during development. The in-town office location of The New Paper has not yet been disclosed; whether it has a physical headquarters in the launch build is one of the small open questions tracked through Early Access.51515252Day 1 Status53535454The New Paper, its daily delivery cycle, its lore and quest headline categories, the Mayor Gloomberg references, the events coverage, and the modding support are all confirmed for the May 25, 2026 Early Access launch. Additional features such as a deeper archive UI, dedicated reader categories, or weekly digest issues have not been publicly confirmed and may arrive during the Early Access window.55555656Out of Scope57575858The full list of section headers, the exact layout of any specific issue, and the precise frequency of each headline type have not been documented in detail. Whether headlines vary by player save or are shared across all saves of the same launch build has not been spelled out publicly. Players should expect documentation to firm up during Early Access.
