Spirit Mirror

Expanded into a full feature list covering health and Hozuki Pouch restoration, the storehouse, pouch swapping, Practice Ground travel, and manual saving, plus the unlock conditions and the Hamakyo naming note
The Spirit Mirror is a recurring interactive landmark in Onimusha: Way of the Sword and the closest thing the game has to a hub menu. Capcom describes these as mysterious mirrors that appear throughout the journey, and the director has called them a familiar element in the series without tying them to any specific earlier entry. In Japanese, the same fixture is called Hamakyo; Spirit Mirror is Capcom's English localisation of that name.
Capcom's official web manual lists ten specific uses, and the table below covers all of them.
Function | What it covers |
|---|---|
Restore on Access | Accessing a Spirit Mirror fully restores Musashi's health and replenishes his Hozuki Pouch from the storehouse. |
Mirror Travel | Fast travel between Spirit Mirrors that have been unlocked, either by advancing the story or by interacting with them directly across Eastern Kyoto. |
Enhance Equipment and Skills | Use materials to enhance Musashi's sword, clothes and gauntlet, and use red souls plus materials to enhance his basic stats and special skills. This sits alongside the souls economy rather than replacing it.Musashi Miyamoto. This sits alongside the souls economy rather than replacing it. |
Your Storehouse | Access the storehouse to replenish and reorganise items and Hozuki that overflowed from Musashi's limited personal inventory. |
Change Your Hozuki Pouch | Swap the single equipped Hozuki Pouch for another. Pouches can also be swapped by talking to Izumo No Okuni directly. |
Change Appearance | Swap sword appearances, haori coats, outfits and Oni Gauntlet skins. These are cosmetic only and do not affect performance in battle. |
Travel to the Practice Ground | Fast travel to the Practice Ground for drills and boss rematches without walking or riding there. |
Save Manually | Save progress into one of 20 manual save slots, usable regardless of difficulty level, on top of the separate autosave slot. |
Adjust difficulty | Change the difficulty level mid-run, so a stage that proves too punishing does not require restarting a save. |
Claim items | Redeem edition content and bonus items, including the charm granted for keeping demo save data. |
The Spirit Mirror is not available from the opening moments. Capcom has stated that Spirit Mirrors, the Charms section of the Equipment screen and the Change Appearance option all unlock separately as the game progresses, so players who buy an edition with cosmetic content will not see all of it immediately. Bonus items sit waiting until the relevant system comes online. On the map, an unlocked Spirit Mirror shows its icon normally, while one not yet found appears dark until the player unlocks it.
The mirror itself is a round disc resting on a cloud-shaped pedestal. The director has drawn attention to that silhouette deliberately and left the question of who made the Spirit Mirror, and why it takes that shape, as something the game answers rather than the marketing. No pre-launch material resolves it.
Because the Spirit Mirror is where Charms are claimed and where appearance changes are applied, it connects several otherwise separate systems. Anything obtained outside normal play, whether from an edition kit or from demo save data, arrives through this one interface.
