The Affinity System is the character relationship and companion system in Neverness to Everness. It allows players to build personal bonds with playable characters through a variety of social interactions. Building affinity with characters unlocks additional story content, character-specific dialogue, and a deeper understanding of each character's personality and backstory.
Players can invite characters to accompany them through the city of Hethereau and engage in various activities together:

Hand-Holding | Walk hand in hand with a companion through the streets. An optional first-person POV mode is available during hand-holding walks. |
Ear Cleaning | An intimate interaction where the player can clean a character's ears, building affinity through personal care. |
Phone Calls | Call companions on the phone for conversations that reveal character personality and advance the relationship. |
Affinity is built gradually through repeated interactions with each character. As the affinity level increases, new dialogue options and story content become available. Higher affinity levels reveal deeper aspects of each character's personal history, motivations, and feelings. The system rewards players who invest time in getting to know the characters beyond their combat abilities.
Reaching certain affinity thresholds with a character unlocks exclusive story segments that are not available through the main quest line. These personal story chapters provide narrative depth and character development that enriches the player's understanding of the game's world and the people who inhabit Hethereau.
