Comprehensive character update with Sunya system, combat abilities, and support mechanics
Adler is an A-Rank Incantation Esper in Neverness to Everness. He holds the title of Golden Edge Butler and wields a Cane Sword and Sunyas as his weapons. Adler is affiliated with the Eibon Antique Shop. His birthday is September 25.
Adler is an impeccably professional butler who serves the Eibon Antique Shop with unwavering dedication. He is calming, reliable, and always prepared, whether the situation calls for a lovingly made meal or precise combat strikes. A distinctive visual trait is that his eyes never appear to be fully open, giving him a perpetually serene expression.
As Eibon's butler, Adler handles both the mundane and the extraordinary with equal composure. He prepares meals for the shop's members, maintains the premises, and when Anomaly threats arise, transitions seamlessly from hospitality to combat. His calm demeanor never wavers regardless of the situation, and other Eibon members rely on his steadfast presence as an emotional anchor.
Adler's combat style reflects his butler philosophy: precise, efficient, and always in service of others. Rather than seeking personal glory, he positions himself as a protector and enabler, using his Sunyas (spiritual constructs) to shield and support his teammates.
Adler is one of the strongest defensive support Espers in the game. His kit revolves around the Karma stack system and his Blessing shield mechanic, which provides near-permanent protection to his team. His Sunyas serve as both offensive tools and protective barriers.
Ability | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
Basic Attack | Deliverance | Performs up to 5 strikes with his cane sword. Each hit generates +1 Karma stack, up to a maximum of 20 stacks. |
Skill | Evil's Bane | Summons a Sunya that deals Incantation DMG over time and applies the "Blessing" shield to the team. Consumes all Karma stacks, granting +2% Skill DMG per stack consumed. |
Ultimate | Tranquility | Summons 5 named Sunyas (Rupa, Vedana, Sanna, Sankhara, Vinnana), each striking all enemies for 5 instances of Incantation DMG. Against a single enemy, each Sunya strikes twice for a total of 10 damage instances. |
QTE | Pristine Reflection | Fires a compressed round dealing a single instance of Incantation DMG. |
Passive 1 | Temperance | When an enemy afflicted with Scorch is defeated, the Scorch effect transfers to a random nearby target. |
Passive 2 | Righteous Heart | Grants +20% DEF to Adler at all times. |
The Blessing shield from Evil's Bane is Adler's defining feature. Because Karma stacks accumulate through basic attacks (which are always available), Adler can generate and refresh his shield frequently. With proper Karma management, the Blessing can maintain near-permanent uptime, providing consistent damage mitigation to the entire team. This makes Adler an exceptionally valuable support character even at A-Rank rarity.
Adler's ultimate summons five distinct Sunyas, each named after one of the five Buddhist aggregates (skandhas):
Sunya | Meaning |
|---|---|
Rupa | Form (physical matter) |
Vedana | Sensation (feeling) |
Sanna | Perception (recognition) |
Sankhara | Mental formations (volition) |
Vinnana | Consciousness (awareness) |
Adler's five Sunyas are named after the Pali terms for the five aggregates in Buddhist philosophy, reflecting a spiritual theme in his character design.
His perpetually closed eyes are a visual trademark that gives him a serene, all-knowing appearance common in wise mentor archetypes.
Despite being an A-Rank character, Adler's near-permanent shield uptime makes him competitive with S-Rank support Espers in team survivability.
The name "Adler" means "eagle" in German, though his character design and personality lean more toward Eastern philosophical aesthetics.
