Weaver is the term HoYoverse uses for the player character in Nodusfall. It appears across the reveal trailer, the official site's feature pillars, and the announcement post, which refers to players in the plural as Weavers.
The player takes the role of a Weaver.
The trailer describes the protagonist as a lost Weaver wandering a world without order.
A Weaver gathers scattered threads to piece together the truth and uncover secrets long forgotten.
Weavers forge bonds with powerful companions and fight alongside them.
Weavers can seize divine power from enemies and switch roles and loadouts at will.
The official site addresses its audience as fellow Weavers, so the term covers players generally rather than one named hero.
The name is not incidental. The lore prologue on the official site describes the essence of creation swirling at the heart of the heavens and then shifting and weaving the sun, the moon, the stars, the laws of all realms, and totality itself. An unknown calamity later tainted the threads of order, after which the glory of the divine gradually faded.
The same vocabulary runs through the player-facing text. The world is described as unravelling at its seams, the first pillar is titled Reweave the Miracle, and the trailer has the protagonist gathering scattered threads. Creation, the damage to it, and the player's role are all described with the same weaving imagery, which points to Weavers being connected to the threads of order rather than simply being adventurers who happen to carry the title.
Nothing has been said about whether Weavers are an organisation, a bloodline, a profession, or a condition. It is not known whether the protagonist is a unique character or a created one, whether other Weavers exist as characters in the story, or how a Weaver differs from the powerful companions they fight beside. The Chronicles section of the official site, which appears to hold this material, currently lists most entries as locked.
