Nodusfall was announced on August 25, 2026, during the opening night livestream of gamescom. It was the game's first public appearance of any kind: no teaser, codename or trade-show listing preceded it. The week that followed did most of the real work of the announcement, and a good deal of what is known about the game comes from the four days after the trailer rather than the trailer itself.

The Debut Post
HoYoverse published a news post about the debut on August 26, 2026, describing Nodusfall as a brand-new multi-mythology co-op action game and confirming that players take the role of Weavers who forge bonds with powerful companions, battle earth-shattering foes, seize whatever divinity remains, and uncover secrets buried deep within the world. The same post frames every clash against a formidable enemy as an epic forged through teamwork, and it is where the Dreadnodus is first defined.
It also sets out what the world is meant to be: a self-contained mythological setting in a realistic art style, with legendary creatures ranging from ancient beasts rooted in eastern folklore to colossal dragons that herald catastrophe, and new regions with their own ecosystems, cultures and histories to be revealed one by one.
The Press Demo
The hands-on session on August 26 is a separate event from the reveal and is often conflated with it. It was not on the show floor: the studio's own gamescom listing offered trial play for two of its other titles and did not include this one. Invited press were bussed to a dressed venue nearby and played a build in development in groups of four. It is the only time anyone outside the studio has played the game. The full account is in Gamescom 2026 Press Demo.
Why the Reveal Drew Attention
The announcement was notable mostly for how far it sits from what the studio is known for. Its released titles are stylised, largely solo-facing games, and Nodusfall was presented with a darker tone, a grounded art direction and heavier combat built around cooperative fights with very large enemies. Coverage of the showcase consistently treated the tonal break as the story rather than any specific mechanic. The monetisation statement that followed, that characters are not obtained through random draws, drew a second round of attention for the same reason.
Pre-Registration and Testing
Pre-registration opened on the official site on the day of the reveal, and the site invites players to follow the official channels to secure beta access, catch battle reports and join other Weavers. Mainland China runs a separate site with its own pre-registration and a player recruitment questionnaire. As of September 11, 2026, no test window, region list or platform for any test has been announced anywhere, and completing pre-registration has not been described as guaranteeing access.
What the Announcement Week Left Open
No release window, no platform beyond PC, no named playable character and no named region were given. See Release and Platforms for what is and is not known about availability, and Frequently Asked Questions for the short answers.
