HoYoverse has described Nodusfall's gameplay through four pillars on the official site. Each pillar is a short statement rather than a mechanical breakdown. Since the reveal the development team has added considerably more in a published FAQ and an interview, and one build has been played by press, so this page separates the three layers: what the studio states about the finished game, what the team has said it is building, and what a development build actually did.
The Four Pillars
Pillar | Official description | What it confirms |
|---|---|---|
Face Mighty Foes, Reweave the Miracle | As the Weaver, cross a mythic world unravelling at its seams. Challenge colossal foes born of legend, and take back what is rightfully yours. | The player is a Weaver. Encounters are built around very large enemies drawn from legend. |
Stand Together, Break the Deadlock | Team up with your allies seamlessly, fight side by side to shatter the deadlock and, together, restore new order to a broken world. | Co-op is a core mode rather than an add-on. The Chinese wording adds that party-up is meant to be barrier-free. |
Seize Their Power, Shatter Their Might | Reap divine power from your enemies to unlock Divine Skills that are yours alone. Turn their own might against them. | Divine Skills are a named progression system, unlocked by taking power from defeated enemies rather than by a conventional skill tree. See Divine Skills. |
Slay, Forge, Build, Evolve | Switch roles and loadouts at will, fell mighty foes to claim mightier relics, and adapt to any fight. | Roles and loadouts are both switchable, meaning you swap between prepared characters and their loadouts rather than being locked into one. Relics drop from defeated enemies and scale with the enemy's difficulty. |
What the Development Team Has Said
A FAQ published on August 28, 2026 and an interview given at the press event cover the intended shape of the game. These are statements of intent about a title still in development, not descriptions of shipped content.
Topic | Stated position |
|---|---|
Core content | Instanced co-op content taken on with a party is the central way to play |
Other content | Wide maps in an RPG format that carry the story forward, plus missions in other formats |
PvP | Small-scale PvP is planned, and PvPvE alongside it, both described as seasoning on top of the PvE core rather than the main dish |
Solo play | Multiplayer is not compulsory. Most of the core content can be played solo, with co-op adding role division and linked finishers |
Party size | Four players, each with a clear tactical role, covering for one another |
Characters | Many characters with differing playstyles are planned, so players can find one that suits them |
Difficulty | A deliberately low barrier to entry with a high skill ceiling for experienced players |
Social play | Light interaction, never forced, with events designed so players meet naturally outside combat |
Development state | The foundation of the core combat system is described as complete, with work continuing on motion smoothness, camera work and the systems that link multiple characters together |
Divine Skills
Divine Skills are the named progression system. They are unlocked by taking divine power from defeated enemies, set before deployment, and charged by landing hits until they can be released. The pool grows as you beat bosses, and they can be swapped, so a character built for damage can carry a support option if the party needs one.
Roles, Loadouts and Builds
The Chinese press release sets out a build system with three axes: weapons, class skills and Divine Skills. On top of those, it says challenges mix in randomised systems covering ecology, affixes and weather, which is the only first-party statement so far that runs differ from each other.
Characters are prepared rather than created. Players pick from a roster and customise from there, and at least one character in the development build offered a choice of sub-class that changed its ultimate. Role labels used by those who played it were the familiar ones, damage, tank and support, though one account disputed that reading, so the safe statement is that characters have distinct tactical roles and very different combat styles.
How a Session Played in the Development Build
Everything here comes from the Gamescom 2026 Press Demo of August 26, 2026, a build in development. The full account, including the three bosses and the caveats the studio and attending press attached to it, is on that page.
A hub area where characters are selected and customised before going out.
A contract taken from a board, setting the hunt.
A summonable mount, described as a divine beast rather than a horse, with a guidance trail marking the route.
Boss fights with multiple health bars and phase changes, including breakable parts and an execution prompt that gives one player a cinematic finisher.
Healing and reviving allies mid-fight, with a respawn point as the fallback.
A counter performed by releasing a charged attack as the enemy strikes, in place of a dedicated block.
Clear-time performance ranks from S downward at the end of a contract.
Not Confirmed
As of September 11, 2026, the following is still open.
Any named role, class, weapon, relic or individual Divine Skill.
Whether progression is per character or account-wide.
Difficulty tiers, endgame structure and repeatable content.
Whether relics are cosmetic, statistical or both.
What the non-boss mission formats actually are, beyond the statement that they exist.
How the wide story maps relate to the instanced co-op content.
Several outlets compared the reveal to other large-monster co-op games. Those comparisons are impressions of a trailer and a 30-minute demo, not statements from the studio, and no such comparison is recorded here as a mechanic.
