Dual Blades are one of the seven weapon types in Monster Hunter Outlanders at launch, and the fastest confirmed weapon in the roster. Official material describes them as delivering rapid hits and empowering the wielder with Demon Mode, and the whole kit revolves around two stances and the gauge that connects them.
Demon Mode
Demon Mode is the entry state. It strengthens attacks and fills the Demon Gauge, so the mode both improves output and generates the resource that leads to the next state. There is no confirmed cost stated for entering it.
Archdemon Mode
Archdemon Mode is the second state. It enables enhanced attacks that drain the Demon Gauge, inverting the relationship of the first mode: where Demon Mode builds the gauge, Archdemon Mode spends it. The weapon therefore runs as a cycle, filling in one state and burning down in the other.
Flowing Assault
The stated play pattern is to use agility to chain attacks in a flowing assault. Combined with the mobile control scheme, where a combo executes from a single button press, this makes the Dual Blades a weapon of positioning and state management rather than input density.
Confirmed Mechanics
Mechanic | Confirmed behaviour |
|---|---|
Base attack profile | Rapid hits |
Demon Mode | Strengthens attacks and fills the Demon Gauge |
Archdemon Mode | Enables enhanced attacks that drain the Demon Gauge |
Demon Gauge | Filled in Demon Mode, spent in Archdemon Mode |
Movement | Agility used to chain attacks into a continuous assault |
The Dual Blades Adventurers
Two Adventurers carry Dual Blades, and they are the clearest example of how the same weapon splits between characters. Both are classed as Disruptor.
Adventurer | Confirmed traits |
|---|---|
Keres | Chains rapid strikes into relentless combos with blinding speed. Some skills unlock enhanced follow-ups, overwhelming targets with an unending flurry of slashes. |
Raya | Uses swift, agile blades and slips past attacks with fluid, dance-like movements. Some skills consume stamina to build her Demon Gauge faster. |
Raya's skills interact directly with the weapon's core resource by trading stamina for gauge, while Keres extends the combo chain itself. Raya was also offered as a pre-registration milestone reward with the rarity label SR, which is discussed on the Release Date and Platforms page.
