The Bow is one of the seven weapon types in Monster Hunter Outlanders at launch and the more mobile of the game's two ranged options. Where the Heavy Bowgun manages ammunition, the Bow manages a single charge gauge and its own footwork.
Mobility
The weapon is described as highly mobile, allowing the player to evade attacks with quick steps. Movement is not a break from the weapon's rhythm here; it is part of it, which is what separates the Bow from every charge weapon that asks the player to stand still.
The Charge Gauge
Charging the gauge increases both arrow count and skill power. That is two effects from one resource: a fuller gauge means more arrows on a shot and stronger skills, so there is no split between an offensive and a utility charge. Landing shots fills the gauge, and doing so also unlocks new skills, which makes sustained accurate fire the way the Bow escalates.
Perfect Evade
Perfect Evades instantly max the charge, enabling powerful skills. This is the strongest confirmed Perfect Evade payoff on any weapon in the game: rather than preserving progress, as it does on the Great Sword, it skips the build-up entirely. It also ties the Bow's defence and its offence to the same input, so a player who reads a monster well is rewarded twice.
Confirmed Mechanics
Mechanic | Confirmed behaviour |
|---|---|
Mobility | High; attacks can be evaded with quick steps |
Charge gauge | Increases arrow count and skill power as it fills |
Gauge gain | Landing shots fills the gauge |
Skill unlocks | Filling the gauge unlocks new skills |
Perfect Evade | Instantly maxes the charge, enabling powerful skills |
The Bow Adventurers
Two Adventurers carry the Bow, in different classes, and they take the weapon in opposite directions.
Adventurer | Class | Confirmed traits |
|---|---|---|
Luka | Assault | Wields a lightning-wreathed bow with unmatched mobility. Some skills power up the Thunder Coating on his arrows on precise casts, and coated arrows unleash crackling arcs that pierce clean through. |
Madelyn | Support | Uses a precise bow and supports allies with medicines and Spores. Certain skills apply Spores that can be detonated, dealing damage and boosting her and nearby allies. |
Luka pushes the weapon's mobility and adds an element to it; Madelyn turns it into a delivery system for area effects that benefit the party. Both sit on top of the same charge gauge.
