The Block Gun is the mechanic NC has put at the centre of Like or Die's identity. It lets a player spawn cube blocks anywhere they choose, turning terrain into something every player can rewrite mid-fight. The studio's own trailers tag the game with the phrase block action.
Confirmed Uses
Use | Detail |
|---|---|
Defensive barriers | Build cover to protect the team's Nexus. |
New entry routes | Carve out fresh approaches to catch an enemy off guard. |
Free placement | Blocks can be spawned anywhere the player desires. |
The studio frames the choice as entirely open: how a player reshapes the battlefield is up to them. Both confirmed uses are tactical rather than cosmetic, and both map directly onto the Nexus rules, one protecting a team's own respawns and one opening a path to someone else's.
Why It Matters Structurally
Because respawns are tied to a destructible Nexus, the ability to raise cover on demand changes what defending means. A team can invest blocks in fortifying its Nexus, but every block spent on defence is not spent opening a route into a rival's. That is the central tension the system appears designed to produce, though the studio has not described any resource cost that would formalise it.
