Updated with detailed 2026 monthly roadmap and platform release plans
Starsand Island launched into Early Access on February 11, 2026, with the development team planning at least four months of active development before the full 1.0 release. The roadmap outlines monthly content drops, new features, and platform expansions scheduled throughout 2026. The full release is planned for Summer 2026, coinciding with the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 launches.
Month | Planned Content |
|---|---|
March 2026 | Sun Wukong outfit set, firework items, Rednote collaboration items |
April 2026 | Expanded NPC voice content, dating system development and improvements |
May 2026 | MOD support with basic creator tools, Steam Workshop sharing functionality |
June 2026 | Multiplayer gameplay: cooperative play, island visits between friends |
The game is currently available on the following platforms as an Early Access or Preview title:
Steam (PC): Early Access since February 11, 2026
Xbox Series X|S: Xbox Game Preview since February 11, 2026
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate / PC Game Pass: Available since day one of Early Access
Additional platforms planned for the full 1.0 release in Summer 2026 include:
PlayStation 5: Launching with the full release
Nintendo Switch 2: Launching with the full release
Multiplayer is one of the most anticipated features on the roadmap, scheduled for June 2026. The planned implementation includes cooperative gameplay where friends can visit each other's islands, help with farming and building tasks, and participate in activities together. The Kickstarter campaign originally highlighted multiplayer as a core feature, and the development team has confirmed it remains a top priority for the 1.0 release.
Modding tools are planned for May 2026, starting with basic creator tools that allow players to create and share custom content. Steam Workshop integration will enable easy distribution of mods. The scope of modding support at launch is expected to focus on cosmetic and decorative content, with deeper gameplay modding potentially following in later updates.
The Kickstarter campaign raised $311,566 from 5,306 backers and unlocked several stretch goals. These included an Ocean Park area, additional character customization options, flight vehicles, and a hoverboard. The development team has confirmed that all unlocked stretch goals will be implemented, though some may arrive after the 1.0 release as free content updates.
The developers have stated that Early Access is being used to gather community feedback, identify bugs, and refine core systems before the full release. The rapid pace of patching during the launch window (over 12 patches in the first two weeks) demonstrates the team's commitment to responding quickly to player-reported issues. Community feedback from Steam reviews, the official Discord, and Reddit is actively monitored and incorporated into the development process.
