Jason Duval

Jason Duval is one of the two playable protagonists in Grand Theft Auto VI, alongside Lucia Caminos. His full name was confirmed by Rockstar Games alongside the release of Trailer 2 in May 2025.

Background

According to Rockstar's official character profile, Jason is someone who wants "an easy life that somehow keeps avoiding him." He grew up "around grifters and crooks" and joined the army during his teens as an attempt to escape that world. Military life did not stick. By the time the game begins, he has drifted back into criminal work and is employed by local drug runners in the Leonida Keys.

Jason works for Brian Heder, a drug runner operating out of the Keys. His day-to-day involves enforcement and logistics for Brian's narcotics operation. Despite the rough company, Jason seems to have a sense of humor and a circle of friends, including the eccentric conspiracy theorist Cal Hampton.

Personality

Rockstar describes Jason as someone "prepared to try something new." He is not portrayed as a hardened criminal mastermind but rather as a guy who fell back into the life he tried to leave. Trailer 2 shows him in casual settings, hanging out with friends at boat docks and bars in the Keys, as well as in more intense moments during jobs and confrontations.

His relationship with Lucia develops as the story progresses. The two form a Bonnie-and-Clyde partnership after an easy score goes wrong, pulling them deeper into Leonida's criminal underworld.

Role in the Story

Jason's story begins in the Leonida Keys, working for Brian Heder. When a job goes sideways, Jason and Lucia are drawn into a conspiracy that stretches across the entire state of Leonida. The game's narrative follows the pair as they navigate escalating danger while trying to survive.

Gameplay

As one of two playable characters, Jason is available through the protagonist switching system. Trailer 2 focuses primarily on Jason's perspective, showing him driving through Vice City, engaging in shootouts, and interacting with the supporting cast. His physical abilities are shown to include weightlifting on the beach, suggesting the fitness system may affect his stats or appearance.
