Progression and Medals
August 20, 2026 at 03:12 AM
Created page covering Player Level and Re-Ups, medal tiers, the four challenge types and achievement rewards
Progression in Gears of War: E-Day deliberately reaches back to how the series used to work. There is no battle pass and no tour of duty. Player Experience, medals and challenges all pool across Horde Siege and Versus, and almost everything they unlock can also be earned by simply playing.
Player Experience comes from playing multiplayer matches and completing weekly challenges in either mode. It advances Player Level, which caps at 100. On reaching 100 you can Re-Up, which grants an exclusive reward and resets Player Level to 1.
Milestone | Detail |
|---|---|
Level cap | 100 |
Re-Ups | Four in total, giving 500 levels of progression overall |
Final reward | Reaching level 100 on the last Re-Up awards a set of wings, inspired by an earlier game in the series, displayed beside your gamertag or Steam name in multiplayer lobbies |
Coin payouts | A batch of Coins is awarded every ten Player Levels, and those Coins are exempt from the weekly cap on match-earned Coins |
The medal system is modelled on the one from the third game in the series. Medals are earned by mastering specific aspects of the game, with progressive tiers for harder versions of the same challenge. Over 80 unique medal series ship at launch, with more each season.
Tier | Notes |
|---|---|
Bronze | The entry tier of a medal series |
Silver | Second tier |
Gold | Third tier |
Onyx | The top tier in the original hierarchy |
Diamond | New in this game. Caps a medal series and awards an exclusive Player Title. |
Unlocking medals also pays out Coins and exclusive banners and emblems. Once earned, a medal can be equipped to your Emblem, where up to three of your choosing can be displayed at once.
Type | Count | Cadence | Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|
Weekly | 12 per week | Expire at the end of each week | Player Experience. Half must be completed in Horde Siege and half in Versus, and the design intent is that missing a week or avoiding a mode does not leave you behind. |
Seasonal | 20 per season | Expire at the end of the season | Customisation items including poses, weapon skin sets, banners, emblems, icons and new base characters. Expired rewards eventually re-enter the Barracks. |
Event | 5 per event | Run during limited time events | Unique themed customisation items tied to that event |
Foundations | A handful | Non-expiring | Tutorial challenges teaching the basics of multiplayer combat. They mainly award base characters. |
Every achievement in the game unlocks a Player Title for use in multiplayer. Some go further: achievements for completing parts of the campaign each unlock a base character, and four Mastery achievements each award a Legendary Character Skin. The headline one is Dead Serious, this game's version of the series' most notorious achievement.
Items obtainable through an active challenge or achievement can only be earned that way while the challenge is live. They cannot be bought with Coins or with premium currency, and an active challenge cannot be bypassed by spending. Once a limited time challenge expires, the corresponding reward enters the Barracks after a cooldown so players who missed it still have a route to it later. Full detail on the currencies and the shop is on Cosmetics and Currencies.
Horde Siege class levels are a separate track from Player Level. Each class carries 30 levels of its own, unlocking weapons, equipment and mods, and class level also gates which difficulty tiers a player can take on. See Horde Siege Classes and Mods and Customization.
Beta progression did not carry over in full. The Beta Player Title, the Beta Medal and any beta challenge rewards are available at launch, but class progression, Player Level and other medal progress were reset. See Open Beta.
