Added the younger, less erratic characterisation and the explicit contrast with the original game's Marcus, plus Adam Fenix as next of kin
11Marcus Fenix is one of the four playable leads of Gears of War: E-Day and one half of the relationship the game is built around. He is voiced by John DiMaggio, who has played the character since the original game in the series. This page covers only what has been confirmed for this game.2233At a Glance445-FieldDetailRolePlayable member of Bravo SquadVoiceJohn DiMaggio, reprising the roleStatus at the startRecently home from the Pendulum Wars, a young veteran with no war to fightLocationAttending an armistice memorial in KalonaStory framingA front seat character, per the studio's own description of the squad5+FieldDetailRolePlayable member of Bravo SquadVoiceJohn DiMaggio, reprising the roleStatus at the startRecently home from the Pendulum Wars, a young veteran with no war to fightLocationAttending an armistice memorial in KalonaStory framingA front seat character, per the studio's own description of the squadNext of kinAdam Fenix, described as a noted war veteran and the creator of the Hammer of Dawn66Where He Starts7788Marcus is not deployed when Emergence Day begins. He and Dom are back on Sera after the Pendulum Wars ended, on a planet that has just declared peace for the first time in almost eighty years, working out what comes next after a lifetime in which war was the only condition they had known. When the first tremors hit, the pair are in a bar in plain clothes.991010The grief underneath that peace is Carlos Santiago, the older brother of Dominic Santiago and Marcus's best friend, who died in combat just before the war ended. Without him, the studio describes the relationship between Marcus and Dom as distant at the start of the game. Its repair is one of the two origin stories the campaign tells.111112+A Younger Marcus13+14+The version of Marcus in this game is deliberately not the one most players carry in their heads. He is younger, less battle-worn and less erratic, and he still respects the chain of command. The studio has been direct about it: Bravo Squad, and Marcus in particular, are not the rogue, order-defying heroes who initiate the famous prison break in the first game in the series. That is what this character becomes later, not what he already is.15+16+The same deference shows up when the squad formally reports for duty. Asked for his details and next of kin by Captain Akila Grey, Marcus gives Adam Fenix, described as a noted war veteran and the creator of the Hammer of Dawn.17+1218In Plain Clothes13191420Designing Marcus out of armour was treated as its own problem, since the character has never been shown that way. The result keeps him unmistakable while dressing him for an evening off: a brown jacket, COG tags worn under a tight V-neck, a wallet chain, and the bandana still on, because he never takes it off.15211622The Lip Scar17231824One detail is confirmed to originate here. Marcus's lip scar is given to him by a Drone during the events of this game, so every later appearance of the character carries a mark that starts on this day. His other well-known scar is acquired in prison and therefore does not appear in this game at all.19252026In the Demo21272228Marcus features in the sequences shown publicly. He slams into the new low-ground cover as a Corpser rips through the street, slides past a planter into cover, and is choked out by a Drone in a close-quarters camera shot the team uses to show off its rebuilt character fidelity. The grocery store fight is where a bayonet snaps while he is pinned and Tai Kaliso intervenes, which is the moment that leads to the chainsaw attachment described on Weapons.23292430In the 2024 announce trailer he fights a Drone hand to hand, fends it off with a nearby television set, plants the Lancer into a wall to disengage its bayonet and downs the creature, before falling through the floor into an emergence hole and being pulled up by a young Dom.25312632Playing as Marcus27332834The entire campaign can be played as any of the four squad members from the start, so Marcus is an option rather than a default. Player counts and split-screen rules are on Co-Op and Split-Screen.29353036Related Items31373238ItemWhere it appearsDeath's Rendezvous Legendary Character SkinEmergence Customization Pack, included with the Premium Edition.
