Throwables and deployables in Gears of War: E-Day share one inventory slot. That is a change from earlier games in the series, and it makes every loadout a choice between an offensive option and a defensive one rather than letting you carry both.
Grenades
Type | Confirmed detail |
|---|---|
Frag Grenade | The standard explosive. Also the tool for closing systemic emergence holes during a fight, which is the main reason to keep one in reserve in the Campaign |
Incendiary Grenade | Confirmed as one of the grenade types available for purchase at Supply Caches in Horde Siege |
Smoke Grenade | Rebuilt with volumetric smoke that saturates the environment realistically and blocks both player and enemy sightlines. Useful for repositioning or for charging in behind the cloud. |
The smoke change is the significant one. Because the smoke blocks enemy line of sight rather than only obscuring the player's view, it becomes a positioning tool rather than a panic button.
Deployable Equipment
Equipment occupies the same slot as grenades and is bought with Energy at Supply Caches during a Horde Siege mission. Two examples are named in official material.
Sentry: a defensive deployable, named as an example of what can be pocketed at a Supply Cache.
Decoy: named in the same sentence as the sentry, drawing enemy attention rather than dealing damage.
What appears for purchase grows as your class progresses and reflects the mods and upgrades you have invested in, so two players standing at the same cache see different options. The economy behind that is on Energy and Supply Caches.
Turret Installations
Turrets sit adjacent to the equipment system rather than inside it. They are bought and upgraded with Energy at fixed defensive positions rather than carried, and they can be detached in this game, which makes a bought turret a practical way to get a Heavy Weapon mid-mission. Heavy weapon handling is on Weapons.
The Power Core
The Power Core is a heavy piece of COG equipment that can be picked up and carried, and it appears in both multiplayer modes with different jobs. In Versus it is the carried objective of the Crucible mode, and it stores an electrical charge that can be released as a defensive blast. In Horde Siege it is a secondary objective item: delivering one to another squad's R.I.G. gives that squad a mid-wave boost.
Class Equipment
Horde Siege classes also carry Tactical Gear, which is separate from the shared grenade and equipment slot. Tactical Gear is a class-defining item on a timed cooldown, such as the Sonic Disruptor or the Stim Vaporizer, and it can be improved with Tactical Gear Mods. Those are listed on Horde Siege Classes and Mods and Customization.
What Is Not Confirmed
No throw arcs, blast radii, carry limits or damage values have been published for any grenade, and the full equipment list beyond the sentry and decoy has not been detailed. Those numbers will only be added once the shipped build or official material provides them.
